Governor Paterson Signs Padavan Bill Into Law Continuing NYPD Tuition Waiver

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that Governor Paterson has signed into law legislation that will extend CUNY tuition waiver benefits for members of the New York City Police Department for two years, until 2010.

The legislation specifically continues for two years a tuition waiver for one course for NYPD officer students seeking a baccalaureate or higher degree at the City University of New York (CUNY). The course must be related to their employment and duties as a police officer.

'Lawn Litter Law' Final Rules Established

With the Department of Sanitation set to unveil the final rules for the ‘Lawn Litter Law’ for the City of New York, Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he has been informed that the provision requiring homeowners to have the complaint form notarized has been removed.

Home Foreclosure Prevention and Relief Legislation Passes Senate

The New York State Senate today passed comprehensive legislation, co-sponsored by Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) that will help at-risk homeowners overcome an impending foreclosure and provide a set of initiatives that will prevent a future increase in foreclosures throughout New York.  A bipartisan agreement on the legislation was reached between legislative leaders and the Governor late last week. 

The legislation passed the Senate unanimous bipartisan support.

Senate Passes Legislation to Protect Senior Services

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the state Senate has passed legislation that would require public input from all affected stakeholders and seniors on any proposed changes to services, such as meals-on-wheels, in a county aging plan.

The legislation (S.8357) would require the state Office for the Aging (SOFA) to solicit input from providers, consumers and especially seniors when considering the approval or disapproval of any changes or amendments to county aging plans or services.

Senate Passes NYC Property Tax Abatement for Alternative and Renewable Energy Source

The New York State Senate today passed legislation sponsored by Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) that would provide an incentive for New York City residents and businesses to use solar power.

The legislative measure (S.8145) provides a four-year property tax abatement for the construction and installation of a solar generating system for class one (residential), class two (condominiums/cooperative apartments) and class four (commercial) properties within the City of New York.

Senate Passes Padavan's Anit-Graffiti Legislation

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Senate has passed his legislation that would significantly increase criminal penalties for graffiti related offenses.

The legislation (S.7072) amends the state Penal Law by establishing the new criminal offense of making graffiti in the second degree. This new offense would be classified as a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine.

Senate Passes Extension of Property Tax Abatement for Co-ops adn Condos in NYC

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Senate has passed his legislation that would extend the current property tax abatement for cooperative apartments and condominiums in the City of New York for a period of four years until 2012. The City and State originally created the property tax abatement program in 1996.

The legislation passed the Senate with unanimous bipartisan support and now awaits action in the State Assembly where it is sponsored by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

City Unveils Rules and Regs for "Lawn LItter Law"
