Padavan Honors Local Teachers

Over 200 hundred people were on hand Friday afternoon May 9th as New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) honored over 40 outstanding teachers at an award ceremony celebrating “2008 Teacher Appreciation Week” in Queens. The ceremony, held at the Queens County Farm Museum, highlighted the honorees contributions to their schools and dedication to their students.

Padavan to Sponsor Spring Senior Health and Info Expo

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he will be hosting two Senior Health and Info Expos at two different locations in the 11th Senate District in the month of May.

The first event will take place Thursday, May 15th from 10 am to 2 pm at the North Flushing Senior Center at College Point, 22-38 College Point Blvd (Knights of Columbus 1463) in College Point. The second event will take place on Friday, May 30th from 10 am to 2 pm at Services Now for Adult Persons (SNAP), 80-45 Winchester Blvd in Queens Village.

Governor Signs 'Granny's Law"

 Governor David Paterson today signed legislation that would significantly increase and strengthen criminal penalties for attacks and assaults on senior citizens. Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) served as a lead co-sponsor of the legislation in the Senate.

 Senator Padavan joined with Governor Paterson and his legislative colleagues for a bill signing ceremony to mark the enactment of the new law was held at St. Margaret’s House in Lower Manhattan on Friday May 2.

Glen Oaks Campus Renamed In Honor of Senator Padavan

The New York City Department of Education today renamed the Glen Oaks Campus after New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens). New York City Chancellor Joel Klein and Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott along with city education, civic and community leaders joined together for the renaming ceremony for the over 30 acre campus in recognition of Senator Padavan’s leadership in securing the building of the schools and campus nearly a decade ago.

Padavan Sponsoring Cell Phone Recycling Drive

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that his district offices in Bellerose and Whitestone will once again be collecting used cell phones in order to recycle them for victims of domestic violence. Last October, Senator Padavan took part in local efforts to collect used cell phones from local constituents to help increase awareness of domestic violence during “National Domestic Violence Prevention Month.”

Senator Padavan Delivers Record State Education Aid for NYC Schools

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the State Legislature has adopted the 2008-2009 State Budget. Padavan noted that the final state budget includes a record $644 million increase in state education aid from last year’s state budget for New York City schools.  All totaled the 2008-09 State Budget invests a record $8.2 billion in education aid for schools throughout the five boroughs.

Padavan Introduces Pet Adoption Tax Credit Legislation

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he has introduced legislation that will provide incentives for New Yorkers to adopt household pets.

 The first bill establishes a personal income tax credit up to $100 for the cost incurred for the adoption of a household pet from a pound, animal shelter, humane society or animal protective or rescue association.  The legislation defines household pets as any dog, cat or domesticated animal for the purpose of companionship.

Padavan: HEAP Help Still Available

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) is reminding Queens residents today that financial assistance is available for eligible residents to help lessen the financial burden associated with the rising cost of home heating from this winter.

 The Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP, is funded by the federal government, administered by the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and is managed by local social service agencies. The Regular component of the HEAP program is opened for enrollment until May 15, 2008.
