New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) participated in a number of parades, ceremonies and observances to mark Memorial Day in Northeast Queens. Pastor Toro, Jr.

After graduating from Aviation High School in 1967, Pastor Toro, Jr., enlisted in the United States Marines and served a tour of duty in Vietnam where his meritorious service earned him the National Defense Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Vietnam Civil Action Medal.

Padavan Honors Terri Pouymari as 2010 Woman of Distinction

 New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) honored Terri Pouymari, President of the Auburndale Improvement Association as a 2010 “Woman of Distinction” during an awards ceremony at the State Capitol on Tuesday May 25, 2010.

The prestigious award honors women throughout New York state for their service to the community and their personal and professional excellence. Women of Distinction honorees come from all walks of life and are recognized for their courage, integrity and perseverance in improving the lives of New Yorkers

Padavan, Students, Teachers, Administrators and Alumni Celebrate Francis Lewis High School's 50th Anniversary

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) attended the 50th Anniversary celebration of Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows on Saturday May 15, 2010.  The event featured a BBQ, carnival, Battle of The Bands, and Marching Bands. Opened in 1960, Francis Lewis High School serves the northeast and central portions of Queens.

College Point Street Renamed In Honor of Betty Pegen

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) was on hand at the ceremony marking the College Point street renaming in honor of Betty Pegen.  Known fondly as the “Gardening Angel of Poppenhusen Monument Park, Pegen who lived close to the park devoted an enormous amount of her time planting, weeding and caring for the grounds of the park.  The ceremony took place during the Partnership for the Parks “It’s My Park day on Saturday May 15, 2010. Senator Padavan and Councilman Dan Halloran with members of Girl Scout Troop 4399 at the street renaming ceremony in honor of Betty Pege

Padavan Honors 2010 Teachers of Distinction

 

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) marked National Teacher Appreciation Week by presenting awards to over 35 teachers at a ceremony he hosted at the Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park on Thursday afternoon May 6th.  Padavan has hosted the Teachers of Distinction event for the past four consecutive years. 

 Teacher Appreciation Week was created in 1985 when the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) agreed to observe the first full week in May in dedication to teachers across the country.

Padavan Welcomes A Pair of Local West Point Cadets At Capitol

On Wednesday April 28, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) a retired colonel and 30-year veteran of the United State Army Corp of Engineers, met with Cadet Rachel Kim and Cadet Hemanth Nalamothu during West Point Day at the State Capitol. Cadet Kim, a member of the Class of 2013 is from Whitestone and Cadet Nalamothu, a member of the Class of 2011 is from Bayside. This was Nalamothu’s second visit to the Capitol for West Point Day.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens),  students from the Immaculate Conception School’s Aquinas Honor Society and local civic leaders joined together for the unveiling of a historical marker for Jamaica Estates. The event took place at the location of the plaque at Wexford Terrace and Midland Malls on Friday morning April 23, 2010.

CONTROLLING MEDICAID SPENDING AND ROOTING OUT FRAUD KEY FOR NEW YORK’S LONG-TERM FISCAL HEALTH

New York’s Medicaid spending has risen to a point that it is now simply unsustainable. New York spends an estimated $52 billion a year on Medicaid- that’s astounding $1 billion a week. Future projections have state spending for Medicaid increasing by 37 percent over the next five years costing New Yorkers approximately an additional $5 billion.

Padavan Calls For Expanded Child Abuse Prevention Efforts In New York State

In response to a rash of brutal child abuse and murder cases in Queens, Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) today called for a state commission to study the feasibility of increasing the availability of child abuse prevention programs throughout New York State.  Currently, these programs are only available to approximately 10 percent of families at risk of abuse across the state.

Statement from Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) on Elimination Of Rubber Rooms Agreement

For far too long, New Yorkers have been exposed to repeated and outrageous stories regarding the notorious “rubber room” system.  The “rubber room” system has long been synonymous with dysfunction and ineffectiveness drawing the ire and disgust of New Yorkers. That is why, I have been working with the City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) to eliminate the current rubber room system and replace it with a better and stronger process.

On Sunday April 17, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) joined with members of the Bayside Anglers Club and community volunteers for the annual clean-up along the shoreline of Little Neck Bay. Once again, volunteers cleaned up trash and litter along the shore line from Bayside to Fort Totten.  Senator Padavan helps volunteer’s pick-up trash along the Little Neck Bay shoreline during the Bayside Anglers springtime clean-up on Sunday April 18, 2010.
