Passionist Monastery Hosts Community Outreach Event Wtih Padavan

On Saturday evening March 6, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) was the guest at a community outreach event hosted by the Passionist Monastery of the Immaculate Conception in Jamaica Estates.  The Passionists are a world-wide holy order with over 2,000 Roman Catholic priests, brothers, sisters, nuns and laypeople that serve and spread the message of compassion. Director of Development Monty Warner, Senator Padavan and Reverend Father Peter Grace at the Passionist Monastery on Saturday evening March 6, 2010.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) helped kick off the 7th Annual Harmony initiative “Pre-Passover Food Drive” sponsored by the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council (NEQJCC), UJA-Federation of New York, Parker Jewish Institute for Health, Samuel Field Y and the Metropolitan  Council on Jewish Poverty. Padavan and Senate Republicans Join Richmond County DA Donovan to Unveil Domestic Violence Act of 2010

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) and his New York State Senate Republican colleagues today joined Richmond County District Attorney Dan Donovan in Albany to unveil the Domestic Violence Act of 2010, a comprehensive effort to strengthen the State’s porous and ineffective domestic violence laws.    Among other things, the initiative would for the first time ever create a specific crime of domestic abuse in the State penal law and provide law enforcement with greater tools to stamp out domestic violence.

Statement From Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) On The Findings Of The Throgs Neck Bridge Park Environmental Analysis

Last evening I sponsored a well attended important community meeting at Holy Trinity in Whitestone to unveil the findings of a comprehensive environmental toxin analysis surrounding the Throgs Neck Bridge. The analysis conducted by environmental scientist Dr. James Cervino clearly and unequivocally uncovered significant lead paint contamination in the soil samples, which poses serious health risks, and large lead paint chips in piles of debris located under the bridge in ball fields, soccer fields and walking paths enjoyed by children and families of our community.

Governor Paterson recently announced that he may consider delaying the tax refunds for millions of hard working New Yorkers. So many families and taxpayers are counting on receiving their hard earned tax refund in timely manner.

Withholding tax refunds in tough economic times is unfair.  Countless New Yorkers have plans for their refunds and for many their anticipated tax refund is vital to help make ends meet. Even with the serious economic challenges facing our state, withholding tax refunds is simply not the answer.

Padavan Introduces Legislation Prohibiting Sex Offenders From Working With Children

In the wake of a Fox 5 NYC exclusive story revealing that Edwin Rodriguez, a Level 2 sex offender was operating a karate school in Glendale, Queens and having close contact with young children every day, Senator Padavan has introduced state legislation (S.6851) to prohibit sex offenders from working or volunteering with children.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) joined with members and leaders from Troop 1 in Flushing to celebrate their landmark 100th anniversary at Temple Beth Sholom on Saturday February 6, 2010.  Troop 1, is the oldest troop in the Greater New York Councils and one of the oldest troops in the United States. Throughout its history, the service of the troop members has made great and lasting contributions to the entire Queens community.

Padavan, Golden, Lanza Call For Stronger Laws To Protect Women From Abusers

Three New York City State Senators today called for stronger laws to protect women from abusers in the wake of the gruesome murder of a Flushing, Queens woman who had filed at least five orders of protection against her murderer, Huang Chen, before he killed her.  In 2006, the suspected murderer spent 30 days in jail for choking and punching the same woman in the face.

The economic woes facing our nation and state have placed tremendous strain and immense challenges on New York small businesses and middle class families.  Last year alone, New York State lost 270,000 jobs in the private sector and unemployment in the state and city continues to climb. For all the promise of results, the federal stimulus package has failed to yield any progress towards improving New York’s economic and job climate.

Padavan Reminds Taxpayers About The Earned Income Tax Credit

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) reminded all taxpayers throughout Northeast Queens to see if they’re  eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) when they file their federal tax return this tax season. Padavan’s call is part of a national public awareness campaign aimed at informing taxpayers about the EITC. .    The EITC was created in 1975 to help low to moderate income federal taxpayers.
