Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop May 30

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) and Community Prevention Alternatives for Families in Crisis will be partnering on Saturday May 30, 2009 to present a domestic violence awareness workshop.

The workshop will take place at the Poppenhusen Institute located at 114-04 14th Road in College Point from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Padavan Meets With Public Service Commissioner Following Tragic Gas Explosion

In the wake of the tragic gas explosion in Floral Park on April 24th which claimed the life of Ghanwatti Boodram, mother of three, and destroyed the adjacent homes of the Levin and Barth households, State Senator Frank Padavan met with New York State Public Service Commissioner Garry Brown to discuss responses to the incident.  The Commission is charged with overseeing public utilities in New York such as Con Edison, which provided service to the area where the explosion occurred.

Congratulations All Winners and Participants of the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Parade Organization Art and Essay Contest

I would like to extend my congratulations to all the participants and winners of the annual Little Neck-Douglaston Parade Ogranization's Art and Essay Contest. Many of the winners were on hand to recieve their awards during a cermony on Friday May 15th at Fort Totten. The themes this year ranged from "Our Country" in the art portion to "Preserving Our Nation" in the essay portion of the contest.

Padavan Honors New Eagle Scout In Douglaston

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) honored new Eagle Scout Ryan Matthew Furlong from Troop 153 during his Court of Honor ceremony on Saturday May 9th at the Douglaston Club.  Padavan presented Ryan with the New York State Senate Medal of Outstanding Achievement and a Certificate of Merit in recognition of him obtaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Senate Padavan Welcomes Dalai Lama To Senate Chamber

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) welcomed the Dalai Lama to the Senate Chamber during his recent visit to the State Capitol on Wednesday May 6, 2009. His holiness, the Dalai Lama, addressed the Senators about the increased need of respect and compassion in addressing the challenges of the state.  The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader and head of state for Tibet. Senator Padavan and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama meet in the Senate Chamber following the Dalai Lama’s remarks to the Senate on May 6, 2009.

Padavan Honors Hero Teachers From PS 129 During Teacher Appreciation Ceremony

Senator Padavan presents the Teacher of Distinction Award and the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to  David Dame, Laura Buquicchio and  Domingo Carrasco from PS 129Q for their heroic actions in saving the life of a fellow teacher on March 19, 2009. The New York State Liberty Medal is presented to individuals who merit special commendation for their actions on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers and their community.

Padavan Honors 2009 Teachers of Distinction

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) presented awards to forty teachers during an awards ceremony in celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week. The third annual event took place at the Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park on Thursday afternoon, May 7th. 

 Teacher Appreciation Week was established in 1985 when the National Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) agreed to observe the first full week in May in dedication to teachers across the country.

Cease and Desist Zone Designation Hearing On May 29

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that the Department of State will be convening a public hearing in Northeast Queens regarding the re-adoption of the “cease-and-desist” zone designation for Queens County.

The public hearing will take place on May 29, 2009 at the Queens High School of Teaching (The Frank Padavan Campus at Glen Oaks) at 74-20 Commonwealth Boulevard in Bellerose starting at 7:00 pm.

"Career Criminal Crackdown" Legislation Moves From Committee

 During the State Senate session today, the Senate ruled in favor of a motion to discharge on Senator Padavan’s “Career Criminal” bill, which will increase criminal penalties for persistent high-level misdemeanor offenders.  The legislative motion now moves the bill (S.2632) from the Codes committee and will face an eventual vote by the entire State Senate sometime in the near future.

Padavan Sponsoring Mobile Mammography Screenings on May 30

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) announced today that he will be partnering with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation in providing no-cost mammography screenings to residents of Northeast Queens on Saturday May 30.   The mobile mammography van will be outside of Senator Padavan’s District Office at 89-39 Gettysburg Street in Bellerose. There are no-out-of-pocket expenses and no copays for both insured and uninsured women.
