STATEMENT FROM SENATOR GEORGE MAZIARZ ON THE MTA BAILOUT

It is astonishing, but not surprising, that the legislative leaders in Albany spend a great deal of time and money on a bailout of the New York City-based Metropolitan Transportation Authority.  Where is the bailout for Western New York?  I wish they had spent as much time worrying about what the tax burden is on Western New York homeowners as they do about what the fare is on a bus in Brooklyn.

Statement From Senator Maziarz on the Adopted State Budget

I voted ‘no’ on every budget bill debated in the State Senate this week.   At $132 billion, this bloated budget will tax and spend our economy into the ground.

In these tough times, families across the state know that every dollar counts.   How can we now ask them to pay more for property taxes, utility bills, and a host of other fees and surcharges?

WHO VOTED TO SWEEP $750 MILLION FROM THE POWER AUTHORITY INTO THE GENERAL FUND?

Not Senator Maziarz.  Three-quarters of a billion dollars could have been used to lower utility rates for homeowners and businesses.  Instead it's treated as a surplus and just given away.  That's not right, and that's why Senator Maziarz voted NO.

Below is the voting history from February 3, 2009.  Unfortunately, the measure was approved and Governor Paterson signed the bill into law the next day.
