NYS Senate passes bill to expand renewable energy technology

The New York State Senate today passed legislation sponsored by Senator George D. Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) that would help encourage the installation of renewable energy technologies by making them more cost efficient and accessible. 

The bill (S1111) would add solar, wind, fuel cells, micro-hydro-electric, farm-based biogas and residential Micro Combined Heat and Power (micro-CHP) to current state financing initiatives that help make energy efficiency upgrades more attractive to potential consumers, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and support job growth in the clean energy sector.

NYS Senate approves Niagara Wine Trails expansion

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) announced that the New York State Senate today unanimously approved legislation he sponsored (S.1095) to expand and rename the Niagara Wine Trail and Niagara Escarpment Wine Trail.  In effect, the wine trails would be enlarged to encompass all of Orleans County and Western Monroe County, bringing more wineries than ever into the popular wine trails’ network.

Senator Maziarz supports "Grown in New York" program

Growing the state’s agriculture industry and helping New York’s family farms prosper is the goal of the “Grown in New York” plan, unveiled today by Senator Patty Ritchie, Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.  Senator Ritchie was joined at a Capitol news conference by other members of the committee, as well as leaders of the New York Farm Bureau to announce a plan to strengthen the state’s $5.2 billion agriculture industry by expanding markets for New York-grown products, improving the bottom lines of family farms, and investing in the future of farming.

Senate Republicans Call on Governor To Remove Utility Tax Surcharge Extension From Executive Budget

Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and members of the Senate Republican Conference, including Senator Maziarz were joined today by leaders of statewide business organizations to urge Governor Cuomo to remove the proposed extension of the utility tax surcharge from his Executive Budget. The 18-a surcharge, which has increased utility bills for every ratepayer in the state,  is scheduled to expire on March 31, 2014.

Senator Maziarz Reacts to State of the State Address

"First I want to again thank the constituents of the 62nd District for allowing me the opportunity to serve them again this year in the New York State Senate.  Last year, under the leadership of the Senate Majority and of Governor Andrew Cuomo, we accomplished a great deal, including an early budget, enacted property tax caps and reduced tax rates on the middle class.  While last year was a success, there is still a great deal to be done to keep this State moving in the right direction.

Senator Maziarz Responds to Governor Cuomo's Energy Highway Blueprint Release

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo received the Energy Highway Task Force's Blueprint, a comprehensive plan that will add up to 3,200 megawatts of electric generation and transmission capacity and clean power generation at his Cabinet Meeting on Monday.   The Energy Highway initiative, introduced in the 2012 State of the State address, is part of the Governor's Power NY agenda, which was put in place to ensure that New York's energy grid is the most advanced in the nation and promotes increased business investment in the state.

Senate Hearing sets a course for our Energy Future

Senator Maziarz Announces Funding For Orleans County School Districts

 

             Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane), is pleased to announce that he was able to secure funding for the 5 school districts in Orleans County from the Legislative Education Aid Grant Process.  Each of the five districts-Albion, Holley, Kendall, Lyndonville and Medina-will receive $50,000 to spend in their district on what their top priorities are.  Senator Maziarz was joined by the School District Superintendents to announce the awarding of the funding as the new school year starts.

2012 New Jobs-NY Job Creation Plan Information

2012 NEW JOBS-NY Job Creation Plan

ELIMINATING TAXES ON MANUFACTURERS: Over a three year period, the legislation would provide manufacturers throughout New York State with $495 million in tax relief – phasing out the taxes they pay under the State’s Corporate Franchise Tax and Personal Income Tax. The first phase will begin for tax years beginning on January 1, 2013.  This will save manufacturers $114 million in SFY 2012-13 and $495 million when fully phased in.

Senator Maziarz Announces Partnership to Help Fund Trip for World War II Veterans to Washington DC

Senator Maziarz is pleased to announce a partnership with Walmart, who have provided $20,000 in funding to take World War II Veterans to Washington DC to visit the World War II Memorial.  The funding provided will cover the entire cost of the trip so that it is entirely free for Veterans.  This will be the fourth trip the Senator has taken to Washington DC, which will be on October 17th.  While there, the Veterans visit the World War II Memorial, Vietnam and Korean Memorials, and Arlington National Cemetary.

ABBAGAIL’S LAW APPROVED IN SENATE

          Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to announce that legislation (S.164C) he sponsors known as “Abbagail’s Law” was approved in the State Senate this afternoon by a vote of 45-1.   Abbagail’s Law would make it clear that any individual acting as a supervising driver while under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. It also creates the crime of aggravated supervising a driver while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which shall be a Class E felony.
