Senator Maziarz hosts "Solutions for Smarter Schools" summit to focus on reforming Common Core

Last night Senator George Maziarz hosted the "Solutions for Smarter Schools" summit at Niagara Falls High School.  The event, held in conjunction with the Partnership for Smarter Schools, drew hundreds of concerned parents, teachers, and administrators.  The consensus among the distinguished panelists was that Common Core learning standards are being implemented the wrong way, and major changes to be made in how these standards are influencing curriculum and testing in the classrooms.

On February 13, 2014, Senator George Maziarz co-hosted the Solutions for Smarter Schools Summit.  This event, held at Niagara Falls High School, was attended by hundreds of concerned parents, teachers, and administrators.  In his introductory remarks, Senator Maziarz sets the stage for where efforts stand in NY to reform Common Core and bring some sanity back to students' curriculum and testing.  He also expressed support for electing Dr. Walter Polka as a member of the Board of Regents.

Senator Maziarz advances effort to reform Regents selection process

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to announce that today the Senate approved legislation (S.2031-A) to change how members of the New York State Board of Regents are selected.  The 17-member Board of Regents is responsible for supervising educational activities in the state, including the public education system and the SUNY system.

The Rowling and Snyder families from the Brockport area were visiting the state capitol today.  Senator Maziarz was pleased to give these homeschooling groups a tour of the historic Senate chamber!
