State moves to dissolve obsolete Medina agencies

Senator George Maziarz, R-C, Newfane, announced that the State Senate Thursday gave final passage to legislation requested by the village of Medina that would dissolve its Urban Renewal Agency and Housing Authority.

''These two authorities, like scores of others in small communities around the state, have been defunct for decades,'' Maziarz said. ''By formally dissolving them, we are taking a small but tangible step to reduce the size of government.''

According to Assemblyman Steve Hawley, R-I-C, Batavia, the bill's sponsor in the Assembly, the measure was approved unanimously in that chamber on Tuesday.

Senator Maziarz meets with Orleans leaders

Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Steve Hawley attended the monthly meeting of the Orleans County Legislators/Supervisors Association at Tillman's Village Inn.  The state legislators fielded questions and concerns about the property tax cap and other issues of interest to local governments. 

Lockport financing bill given final passage in Senate; will go to Governor

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) announced that legislation allowing the City of Lockport to issue bonds to liquidate $5.35 million was approved today in the Senate.  This special legislation was requested by the City of Lockport through a home rule message in order to allow the municipality to borrow funds to cover debts incurred during fiscal years 2011, 2012, and 2013.
