Olcott Beach land transfer OK'd by Legislature

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) and Assemblyman John Ceretto (R-I, Lewiston) are pleased to announce that the State Legislature approved a bill (S.4253-B/A.6855-B) to allow the ownership of the beachfront and terraced recreational area at Olcott Beach to be conveyed from Niagara County to the Town of Newfane.  Both local governments are seeking state approval for the transfer to ensure the summer operation and maintenance of Olcott Beach for the enjoyment of local residents.


Senator Maziarz helps open new Splash Park in Olcott

Senator George Maziarz joined local officials today to mark the opening of a new Splash Park and Fitness Trail at Krull Park in Olcott.  The amenities were constructed by Niagara County through grant monies from the New York Office of State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.  This morning, the ribbon was cut and the water was turned on for the first time.  A group of children were already waiting to get wet and cool off!

Support growing for Wallenda walk over Niagara River Gorge

The Mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario, has endorsed the plan to invite Nik Wallenda to perform a high-wire walk across the Niagara River above Niagara Falls.  Such a feat has not been accomplished legally in more than a century.  In a letter he recently sent to State Senator George Maziarz, Mayor James Diodati acknowledged the great potential for the act to put Niagara Falls in the world’s spotlight.


Wallenda visits Niagara Falls to discuss high wire walk

Productive discussions between famed high wire performer Nik Wallenda and state and local officials in New York continued today during a meeting held at the Top of the Falls Restaurant located within Niagara Falls State Park.  Wallenda and a team of his advisors laid out plans and answered questions from American officials about how a high wire walk above Niagara Falls could be accomplished logistically.  Earlier this


Bill allowing Nik Wallenda high wire walk over Niagara Falls signed into law

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law legislation (A.8206-a/S.4844-a) that would allow Nik Wallenda to perform a high wire walk between the United States and Canada over Niagara Falls. The measure was approved by the State Legislature in June 2011 and, according to the law, Wallenda will have one year from today to perform the walk. The remaining hurdle is for Wallenda to obtain approvals from Canadian officials.


Nik Wallenda Press Conference in Niagara Falls

Senator Maziarz, along with MPP Kim Craitor and NYS Assemblymen John Ceretto & Dennis Gabryszak, welcomed daredevil Nik Wallenda to the Niagara Falls International Airport for a press conference to further discuss plans related to Nik's upcoming 1,800 foot walk across the Niagara Gorge on a high-wire. Cutting the ribbon at Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride

Wayne Hale of Medina named to Canal Recreationway Commission

Senator George Maziarz is pleased to announced that Wayne Hale of Medina has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to serve as a member of the New York State Canal Recreationway Commission.  Hale has worked as Director of the Orleans County Planning and Development Department since 1986, Tourism Project Director for Orleans County’s I Love NY Program since 1992, and Manager of the Orleans County Marine Park since 1998.
