“LAURA CUMMINGS’ LAW” PASSED IN STATE SENATE

Legislation will protect New York’s most vulnerable citizens

State Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) announced that legislation to improve the operations of the Child and Adult Protective Services systems in order to prevent tragedies like the murder of 23-year old North Collins resident Laura Cummings unanimously passed in the New York State Senate today.  The measure has been dubbed the “Laura Cummings’ Law” in her memory.

Penn State scandal inspires state legislation to bring child abusers to justice

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) today announced that he is introducing legislation in the New York State Senate to close a loophole in the state’s child abuse reporting requirements.  The bill would add new individuals to the list of mandatory reporters of child abuse in New York: college coaches, athletic directors, professors, graduate assistants, administrators, and college presidents.

ABBAGAIL’S LAW APPROVED IN SENATE

          Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to announce that legislation (S.164C) he sponsors known as “Abbagail’s Law” was approved in the State Senate this afternoon by a vote of 45-1.   Abbagail’s Law would make it clear that any individual acting as a supervising driver while under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. It also creates the crime of aggravated supervising a driver while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which shall be a Class E felony.
