Lockport firm awarded $1.6 million bid to raze state office buildings in Albany

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to announced that the State Comptroller’s Office has approved a $1.6 million contract with Titanium Demolition and Remediation Group to demolish Building 1 and Building 1A on the Harriman State Office Campus in Albany.  Titanium Demolition’s headquarters is located in the Town of Lockport Industrial Park.

Some of NY's storm recovery aid should be sent to Niagara County, Senator Maziarz says

On the heels of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement today of a multi-billion dollar infrastructure improvement plan for the state, Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is strongly urging that monies from this initiative be directed to Niagara County to help repair and upgrade the Niagara Falls and Lockport wastewater treatment plants.  These facilities suffered extensive damage as a result of severe rains and flooding events that occurred in June and July of 2013.

Maziarz bill to audit relicensing beneficiaries becomes law

Governor Cuomo has signed into law Senate Bill 4948A, which directs the New York Power Authority to conduct audits of entities that receive power allocations or monetary payments associated with the federal relicensing agreement.  All beneficiaries of power or money associate with these agreements are required to fully cooperate and once the audit is complete, NYPA is then required to report their finding to the Governor and Legislature.

PSC puts Maziarz bill into practice

On May 29, 2013 the Senate passed legislation, sponsored by Senator Maziarz, that exempts electric car charging stations from being regulated as an electric corporation by the PSC. This legislation however was not passed by the Assembly. Last week, the PSC announced that it does not have jurisdiction over these publicly available stations, putting into practice the previously passed Senate legislation.

Lockport WWII veteran Ed Kolek named to French Legion of Honor

Lockport WWII veteran Ed Kolek was named to the French Legion of Honor during a special ceremony at the B. Leo Dolan American Legion Post #410 on Thursday, November 21, 2013.  The award was instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to denote special service to France.  Kolek piloted B-24 aircraft in 47 missions and contributed to the liberation of France.  From left: State Senator George Maziarz, Kolek, Honorary French Consul Pascal Soares, and Assemblywoman Jane Corwin.

Senate GOP issues report on tax reform; calls for simplified tax code

State Senate Republicans today issued a comprehensive report on state taxes that calls for personal income taxes, business taxes, estate taxes and local property taxes to be reformed, simplified and reduced.  The report makes sweeping recommendations for reducing the tax burden on all New Yorkers.  The plan recommends enacting a permanent two-percent state spending cap and dedicating surplus revenues to tax reductions.

Taylor Devices expands and invests in North Tonawanda

Today local officials, including Taylor Devices President/CEO Doug Taylor, held a grand opening “ribbon cutting” event at their new facilities located in North Tonawanda's Buffalo Bolt business park.

Taylor Devices, Inc. purchased three parcels of land from the city at the Buffalo bolt business park in 2011, and has invested $3.3 Million at the site for the three buildings totaling 50K square feet. The facilities are third party certified to ISO 14001, the International Standard for environmental quality.

Genesee and Orleans Veterans' Memorial Highway bill signed into law

A bill sponsored by Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Steve Hawley creating the Genesee and Orleans Veterans' Memorial Highway” has been signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The legislation renames the stretch of State Route 98 from the border of Geneseeand Wyoming counties to the intersection with Lake Ontario State Parkway in Orleans County in an effort to recognize the sacrifice made by our courageous military heroes.

Niagara Falls State Park is looking better and better

Senator George Maziarz today joined the Cuomo administration in announcing the completion of Phase 1 of the restoration of Prospect Point, which is one of the most popular areas of Niagara Falls State Park. The ribbon cutting took place at the same time that ground was broken for Phase 2 of the restoration project.

Power Vista welcomes its 7 millionth visitor

The Power Vista--the visitor center for the Niagara Power Project--welcomed its 7 millionth visitor yesterday!  The popular facility opened 50 years ago in 1963 and is free to the public.  Senator Maziarz was on hand for the celebration.

New law caps agriculture assessments, protecting farms from tax hikes

Preserve WNY Children's Psychiatric Center

The WNY Children's Psychiatric Center (WNYCPC), opened in 1970, is a 46 bed inpatient psychiatric hospital.  As part of the NYS OMH's "Centers of Excellence Plan" WNYCPC is scheduled to lose 10 inpatient beds.  WNYCPC's inpatient children and youth will be moved to 2 inpatient wards at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center.  This is the only facility in OMH's plan that will have children and youth moving to co-mingle with the adult psychiatric population.


A petition has been started to encourage Governo Cuomo and the NYS OMH to keep WNYCPC in West Seneca and to keep the children and youth from co-mingling with the adults.

Carnegie Art Center to benefit from state grant assistance

Senator George Maziarz is pleased to learn the City of North Tonawanda has been awarded a grant in the amount of $343,000 from the New York State Office of Community Renewal to make improvements at the Carnegie Art Center. The 2012 CFA round included funding in the form of the Community Renewal Fund (CRF). The improvements will include having handicap accessible access to the city building, and handicap bathroom facilities.

New video highlights Basic STAR registration process for keeping tax savings

Senator George Maziarz has just released a short video explaining how Basic STAR recipients can go about keeping their Basic STAR exemption.  This exemption helps reduce the cost of school property taxes.

This year, Basic STAR recipients must complete a one-time Basic STAR re-registration to confirm their eligibility and continue receiving the discount.  The re-registration requirement is intended to reduce fraud abuse of taxpayer dollars.
