One-time Niagara County resident George “Bud” Day, who led a stellar military career through three wars and received the Medal of Honor, died on July 27 at the age of 88.  He deserves to be remembered.

"Old Stone Chimney" is worthy of historic preservation

Senator George Maziarz recently met with Christopher Puchalski and Joseph Kissel to learn about the "Old Stone Chimney" in Niagara Falls.  While it is currently in an obscure location, the trio discussed strategies to preserve and promote awareness of the mid-18th century structure.

State funds available to repair flood damage to private property

If you or someone you know in the Lockport area suffered property damage during the late June flood, this message is for you: the State of New York is making a total of $2,000,000 available to help Niagara County residents repair and rebuild.

These dollars—earmarked in the state budget for emergencies such as ours—will be very helpful to local residents because there was not enough damage to trigger FEMA aid, and insurance providers do not cover all losses.

The Town of Ridgeway in Orleans County recently celebrated its 200th Anniversary.  At an open house in the newly-renovated town hall, Senator George Maziarz presented a copy of a resolution adopted in the State Senate marking the bicentennial to Town Supervisor Brian Napoli.

Touring flood damage in Lockport

This morning Senator George Maziarz joined a host of officials--including Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy and Senator Charles Schumer--in touring Lockport sites that suffered severe damage as a result of last week's heavy rainfall.  The officials are working to ensure that emergency aid is made available to the greatest extent possible.

Update on Middleport remediation

Point Breeze is the Ultimate Fishing Town

Senator Maziarz announces library construction funding

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) announced that several libraries in his district will benefit from Public Library Construction Grant Program funds.  The grants are made from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2012-2013 state budget.

Lakeside Reborn as URMC's Strong West

Less than two months after Lakeside Health System officially closed its hospital to patients, the Lakeside Board today announced plans to sell most of the system’s assets to the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). The deal breathes new life into the West Avenue campus in Brockport, reestablishing urgent care and outpatient services to support Brockport-area physicians and patients.
