Senate passes $3.3 billion tax cut and job creation plan

The New York State Senate has passed the Middle Class Tax Cut and Job Creation Plan that will reduce taxes for millions of hardworking, middle-class taxpayers to their lowest levels in more than half a century. In addition, the comprehensive plan will help strengthen our economy and create new jobs by eliminating the job-killing MTA payroll tax for more than 78 percent of the small employers that pay the tax. The plan will provide a total of more than $3.3 billion in tax relief to individuals and businesses.

Stanley Maziarz earns prestigious French honor for WWII service

On November 11, I had the distinct honor of accompanying one of my constituents, Stanley Maziarz of North Tonawanda (no relation), to New York City where he was presented with a distinguished award for his military service.  Stanley, a hero of World War II, was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the President of the French Republic, Mr. Nicholas Sarkozy.  This award signifies the French people’s deep appreciation for Stanley’s contribution to the liberation of France during World War II.

Penn State scandal inspires state legislation to bring child abusers to justice

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) today announced that he is introducing legislation in the New York State Senate to close a loophole in the state’s child abuse reporting requirements.  The bill would add new individuals to the list of mandatory reporters of child abuse in New York: college coaches, athletic directors, professors, graduate assistants, administrators, and college presidents.

Bill allowing Nik Wallenda high wire walk over Niagara Falls signed into law


Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law legislation (A.8206-a/S.4844-a) that would allow Nik Wallenda to perform a high wire walk between the United States and Canada over Niagara Falls. The measure was approved by the State Legislature in June 2011 and, according to the law, Wallenda will have one year from today to perform the walk. The remaining hurdle is for Wallenda to obtain approvals from Canadian officials.

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) has been presented with the first-ever Mary Lucariello Legislative Award from the Western New York Youth Bureau Association.  The award was announced at the Association’s Presentation and Awards Breakfast held at Woodlawn Beach Lodge in Blasdell this morning.

State-Native American committee holds hearing in Albany

This morning the New York State Senate Select Committee on State-Native American Relations held a public hearing in Albany to advance a productive dialogue between Indian nations and state government.  Representatives of the Oneida, Seneca, and St. Regis Mohawk Indian Nation met with a bipartisan group of state senators to talk about economic development and challenges facing their tribes.

WWII veteran Margaret Gill honored in North Tonawanda

The late Margaret Gill, a US Army nurse who grew up in North Tonawanda, has been inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame, according to Senator George Maziarz.  A plaque commemorating Gill’s service was unveiled today in North Tonawanda City Hall.
