Yahoo! data center opens in Lockport

Yahoo! Inc., the world’s largest global online network of integrated internet services, has completed the first phase of a two-phase investment project in Western New York. The company finished construction and opened a new $150 million East Coast Regional Datacenter, creating 125 new high-tech jobs in Western New York with an average annual wage of $65,000. This new datacenter will host properties, advertisements and content found on Yahoo!’s web portal.

New fishing access on Niagara River

Senator Maziarz joined local officials on this gray and rainy morning to dedicate a new fishing pier in North Tonawanda's Gratwick-Riverside Park along the Niagara River.  Funding was obtained from the Niagara River Greenway Commission to complete the project.

Remembering Etta Magner at Opportunities Unlimited

Senator Maziarz today spoke at the Remembrance Ceremony for Henrietta Magner, a founder of Opportunities Unlimited, who passed away last year.  Mrs. Magner was chosen by Senator Maziarz as a NYS Senate Woman of Distinction in 2005.  A memorial bench was dedicated in her honor.

Senator Maziarz scores high on job creation efforts

Senator George Maziarz received one of the top scores on the job creation scorecard released by the Business Council of New York State.  The Business Council recognized Senator Maziarz for consistently voting against measures to increase taxes and spending that were proposed and passed by the current Senate Majority.  In fact, the Business Council flunked every current Senate Majority member.

Supporting Hospice in Orleans County


Hospice of Orleans recently had the opportunity to personally thank Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Steve Hawley for their support of Hospice through a legislative member grant of $2,500. The grant has been given through the NYS Department of Health and will be used towards funding the Bereavement program.

Senator Maziarz warns against return of clothing and shoe tax taking effect October 1

State Senator George Maziarz warned local families to do all their planned back-to-school shopping as soon as possible in order to avoid a Majority-approved sales tax on clothing that will take another bite out of their finances after it goes into effect on October 1.  Senator Maziarz voted against the tax reinstatement.       On October 1st, New York State will begin collecting four percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing $110 or less as part of the 2010-2011 state budget approved by the Majority who now control state government.  The sales tax reinstatement is expected to cost New Yorkers $330 million.  It was included in nearly $4 billion in new taxes approved this year so the state’s Majority leadership co

Pushing for transparency at the New York Power Authority

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane), Chairman of the New York State Senate Energy Committee, has requested the New York Power Authority release key information to the public regarding the Great Lakes Offshore Wind (GLOW) Project.  Specifically, Senator Maziarz is echoing calls that NYPA make known the identities of the five project bidders, the prospective site locations, and other basic details pertaining to the bids.  Today, Senator Maziarz requested this information under the New York State Freedom of Information Law.
