This week Orleans County officials launched the construction of a new radio tower in Albion to improve emergency communications. Additional towers are going up in Medina and Clarendon. Complementing the important project are new radios for first responders.
Eastern Niagara Hospital is creating an ambulatory surgery center on Transit Road in Lockport to better serve local residents in outpatient setting. The facility will have four surgical suites as well as pre-operative areas, recovery, and support functions. Anticipated specialities include orthopedics, plastic/ reconstructive surgery, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, and general surgery. Today marked the construction kick-off for the $3 million project. Congratulations to ENH on this expansion!
The New York State Senate Majority Coalition issued a comprehensive report today that sheds light on New York State’s notoriously dense regulatory structure and identifies 2,219 specific rules, regulations and practices that put New York’s businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
The report is the product of surveys, meetings, community outreach and the input of over 100 business owners, advocacy organizations and individuals that participated in one of nine industry-specific public forums conducted throughout the State.

Specifically, the Office of Community Renewal has awarded the Village of Albion a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $744,165.62 to facilitate the expansion.

Titanium Demolition’s headquarters is located in the Town of Lockport Industrial Park.
On the heels of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement today of a multi-billion dollar infrastructure improvement plan for the state, Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is strongly urging that monies from this initiative be directed to Niagara County to help repair and upgrade the Niagara Falls and Lockport wastewater treatment plants. These facilities suffered extensive damage as a result of severe rains and flooding events that occurred in June and July of 2013.
Statement from Senator George Maziarz: "Putting an end to the 18-a utility surcharge cannot come quickly enough. I have been banging this drum louder than anyone else since 2009 when this tax was foolishly created to support bloated state spending.
Governor Cuomo has signed into law Senate Bill 4948A, which directs the New York Power Authority to conduct audits of entities that receive power allocations or monetary payments associated with the federal relicensing agreement. All beneficiaries of power or money associate with these agreements are required to fully cooperate and once the audit is complete, NYPA is then required to report their finding to the Governor and Legislature.
On May 29, 2013 the Senate passed legislation, sponsored by Senator Maziarz, that exempts electric car charging stations from being regulated as an electric corporation by the PSC. This legislation however was not passed by the Assembly. Last week, the PSC announced that it does not have jurisdiction over these publicly available stations, putting into practice the previously passed Senate legislation.
Lockport WWII veteran Ed Kolek was named to the French Legion of Honor during a special ceremony at the B. Leo Dolan American Legion Post #410 on Thursday, November 21, 2013. The award was instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to denote special service to France. Kolek piloted B-24 aircraft in 47 missions and contributed to the liberation of France. State Senate Republicans today issued a comprehensive report on state taxes that calls for personal income taxes, business taxes, estate taxes and local property taxes to be reformed, simplified and reduced. The report makes sweeping recommendations for reducing the tax burden on all New Yorkers. The plan recommends enacting a permanent two-percent state spending cap and dedicating surplus revenues to tax reductions.
During a visit to Medina today, Senator George Maziarz and Assemblyman Steve Hawley urged Basic STAR recipients in Orleans County to re-register for the popular school tax savings program in order to continue receiving benefits.
