The colder-than-usual temperatures this winter have led to higher-than-expected bills from Con Ed, and customers are freaked out.
“We’ve lived in Sleepy Hollow for 2 years and our bill has been between 6-9 cents per kwh and then suddenly this last bill jumped up to 17.9 cents per kwh,” said one Facebook commenter. “We rent an apartment, I don’t even want to think what a bill for a whole house would be.”
ALBANY—The State Senate passed a bill Thursday that would remove military deployment from consideration in child custody cases.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Greg Ball, a Putnam County Republican who is a retired Air Force officer, would also require that the custody arrangement in place prior to deployment be reinstated when a military parent returns home.

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The Peekskill City School District has received received $171,154 in state funding to start a Peekskill Priority Pre-K Program (4P Program).
The 4Ps Program will create one new full-day inclusion class and will convert two half-day classes to full-day classes, creating a total of three new full-day placements, which will serve a total of 60 children. The class schedules will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Arc of Westchester’s Children’s School for Early Development, which will receive 10 percent of grant funds as a purchased service, will provide aid in staffing the inclusion class.

ALBANY — Some state lawmakers Tuesday criticized Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to use public money to fund college for prisoners.
Cuomo has faced opposition to his proposal announced Sunday to spend up to $5,000 an inmate to help them achieve a college degree. Cuomo said the program would cut down on recidivism and ultimately lower the roughly $60,000 a year it costs to house a prisoner.
