COURIER: BALL CALLS FOR ASSEMBLY TO ACT ON SEX OFFENDERS

 

The Senate has passed legislation to keep sex offenders from living next to schools and day care centers, Sen. Greg Ball said Thursday, as he called for the Assembly and the Governor to act on the measure. The Assembly did not vote on it.

SENATOR BALL PASSES BILL TO CLOSE LOOPHOLE AFTER LEVEL 3 SEX OFFENDER IS RELOCATED NEAR CARMEL SCHOOLS

 

Carmel, N.Y. – 8/1/2013 –Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee has announced that the New York State Senate has passed his legislation (S2578) that would close a current loophole in the law, that allows level three sex offenders to live within 1,000 feet of a day care facility. Senator Ball drafted the legislation after a level 3 sex offender was moved less than a mile from Carmel High School and St. James the Apostle School, and even closer to two preschools.

Brewster, N.Y. – 7/31/2013 – A flaw in the FDNY legacy points system has knocked the dreams of sons of 9/11 heroes seeking to serve in their father’s footsteps.

As a recent Daily News article explains, “the dreams of at least 13 men have slipped in the line to become firefighters because the complicated ‘legacy points’ system bumps offspring of 9/11 heroes looking to serve in FDNY after deaths of firefighters who died of Ground Zero-related illness considered administrative not ‘in line of duty.’”

HUDSON VALLEY REPORTER: LEWISBORO LIBRARY $60K CLOSER TO BREAKING GROUND ON EXPANSION

 

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Lewisboro Library is $61,710 closer to breaking ground on renovating and expanding its facility thanks to two state grants.

The library has already raised $2.6 million towards the $3.1 million price tag on the project, which received approvals from all the necessary boards earlier this year. The contract went out to bid in April and Library Director Cindy Rubio said they hope to begin construction in September.

Albany, N.Y. – 7/29/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) is urging Governor Cuomo to sign his legislation (S2665A), a law that would require animal abusers to pay for the cost of care for the abused animal that has been seized. The bill passed both the Senate and Assembly this past legislative session and now awaits the Governor’s Signature.

PATTERSON, N.Y.- A bill requiring animal abusers to be added to a registry much like the Sex Offender Registry has passed the Senate, State Senator Greg Ball announced. Offenders would also be required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation be banned from ever owning a pet again.
