LEGISLATIVE GAZETTE: VETS WILL BENEFIT FROM NEW DRIVER’S LICENSES

A bill signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last week will place a distinguishing mark on a state driver’s licenses and non-driver identification card to indicate the card holder is a veteran. The new program is designed as a way to better connect veterans with available services and eliminate the need for extra documentation for receiving discounts.

There isn’t a single quality that defines heroism. Antoinette De Bellis knows this well, having a family friend in Spc. Blaise J. Flamio who received a Purple Heart for his military service in Afghanistan this past spring. She felt like he, and others in the community, were not receiving enough recognition so she took it upon herself to host a Wounded Warriors fundraiser last week at Our Lady of Lakes Knights of Columbus in Carmel.
