MIDHUSON NEWS: PURPLE HEART HOMES TO RENOVATE NAM VET’S HOME

BREWSTER – State Senator Gregory Ball (R, Patterson) is joining with the Purple Heart Homes organization to remodel the home of a local Vietnam war veteran.

Ball is chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee.  He said they will upgrade the home of Private Daniel Flanigan, a 100 percent service-connected disabled Vietnam veteran who lives in Pawling.

The Youth Awards Dinner is an annual event designed to recognize outstanding youth from throughout Putnam County. Honorees were chosen by a selection committee for their community service efforts benefitting Putnam residents.

Carmel, N.Y. – 04/05/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) hosted a roundtable meeting with school superintendents throughout the area to speak about the recent heroin and opioid epidemic on Friday afternoon at the Carmel Town Hall.

“The epidemic of heroin addiction plaguing our communities must be confronted head on. It is sickening to read and hear of the countless deaths in our community. We must get to the kids before it’s too late, talk is cheap, and what is needed is funding and resources. As legislators, we must do everything in our power to protect our children from drug addiction,” said Senator Greg Ball.

PATTERSON — Volunteers and donations are needed to help a Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient from Pawling rehabilitate his 100-year-old home.

While serving in the U.S. Army in the Mekong Delta in 1969, Daniel Flanigan suffered multiple wounds, including head injuries, when an enemy grenade exploded next to him during an ambush.

An initiative began in Mahopac, NY on September 12, 2013 when the community gathered together with one purpose, to build or renovate a home for a service-connected disabled veteran in Senator Ball’s District.

STATE AND COUNTY OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE $5.25 MILLION FOR REPEAL OF DUTCHESS ENERGY TAX

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – 04/02/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Hudson), Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and other officials announced $5.25 million in the New York State 2014-2015 Budget that will enable Dutchess County to repeal the recently enacted energy tax.

The local tax, which took effect on March 1, 2014, imposed a 3.75 percent sales tax on all residential energy sources, including electricity and fuel oil to balance the Dutchess County budget.

LEGISLATIVE GAZETTE: HIGH HOPES THAT GOV. CUOMO WILL SIGN JOBS FOR HEROES BILL

After nearly a decade-long fight, a bill that would facilitate the awarding of state contracts to disabled veterans passed the Senate and Assembly last week, all but guaranteeing the legislation will be signed into law once it is delivered to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk.

Cuomo, who gave the program his blessing in February, said it “will play a large part in our ongoing efforts to create new economic opportunities for the men and women of the U.S. armed forces.”

POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL: STATE MOVES ON BUDGET DEAL THAT WOULD ALLOW DUTCHESS TO REPEAL ENERGY TAX

State lawmakers today began voting on the 2014-15 spending plan, a budget deal which includes $5.25 million in mandate relief for Dutchess County that county leaders say will allow them to repeal the highly unpopular energy tax.

The additional funding for Dutchess was finalized over the weekend, according to state Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, and Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, D-Hudson.
