The only way to protect all New Yorkers from the financial and health risks associated with the chemical concoction used in the hydraulic fracturing process is to enact a “Property Owner’s Bill of Rights” (S5879). With this legislation, these are some of the key items natural gas companies will be mandated to do:

It has come to our attention that local, public school districts are, in the course of seeking mandate relief from the state, recommending that such relief come in a reduction of the maximum mileage at which a district is required to bus nonpublic school students.  Such a reduction, from the current state law mandate of 15 miles to a mere 5 miles, would negatively impact taxpayers’ ability to send their sons and daughters to religious and private schools.  Namely, it would eliminate your right to school choice.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has just unveiled his new Executive Budget proposal – marking the start of the budget review and adoption process for the upcoming fiscal year. (Click here to review details of the plan.) Last year, I partnered with the Governor in passing an on-time State Budget that accomplished three of my top objectives:

It reduced state spending;
It avoided tax increases; and
It included measures to help create jobs and strengthen our economy.

The New York State Senate has completed passage of the 2011-12 state budget one day prior to the April 1st budget deadline.  The budget, which has now received final approval by the Assembly, achieves the critically important goals of reducing state spending, not raising taxes and creating new private sector jobs.
