YORKTOWN, N.Y. — Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently signed into law a bill named after a Yorktown girl.

Sen. Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson) announced recently that Cuomo signed “Hannah’s Law,” named after Yorktown’s Hannah Devane, according to a news release. Hannah, 8, “suffers from eosinophilic esophagitis, a potentially fatal condition that makes it impossible for her to eat most foods,” according to the release.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the new ‘Hannah’s Law,’ named after an 8-year-old Hannah Devane, who has an extremely rare disease where she can’t digest real food and can only drink a special formula.

HUDSON VALLEY REPORTER: CUOMO SIGNS LAW NAMED AFTER YORKTOWN GIRL

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A new chapter for Hannah Devane began Tuesday, when Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law named after the Yorktown 8-year-old.

Devane’s mother, Jessie, has had to shell out $1,200 a month and $14,000 a year to pay for the life-saving formula Hannah needs because she suffers from a potentially fatal condition that prevents her from eating most foods, called eosinophilic esophagitis.

HUDSON VALLEY REPORTER: MOUNT KISCO VETERAN WHO FOUGHT IN 82-DAY BATTLE OF OKINAWA TO BE HONORED

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Exercise teachers aren’t typically 87 years old, but Corporal John Hvisch isn’t your typical senior.

The Mount Kisco resident enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 at the age of 17 against his parent’s objections. America was at war. After completing his training, he joined the “Island Hopping Marines” in the Mariana battles, part of the Pacific campaign of World War II. The battles took place on the islands of Tinian and Saipan.
