SENATOR BALL PASSES LEGISLATION AFTER PUTNAM COUNTY LEVEL 3 SEX OFFENDER MOVES BACK NEXT DOOR TO VICTIM

Albany, N.Y. – 06/10/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) has announced that the Senate today passed legislation (S6778A) that would prohibit level two and level three sex offenders from residing within 1,500 feet of the residence of a victim of their abuse.

In March 2014, Senator Ball introduced this legislation after a level three sex offender in Putnam County was permitted to move back next door to one of his victims, following his release from prison. According to a report in the Journal News, in 2011, a level three sex offender was released from prison after serving approximately sixteen months in jail. Following his release, the offender, whose victims were eight and nine years old at the time the abuse took place, was permitted to reside next door to one of his victims.

SENATOR GREG BALL SPONSORS PACKAGE OF LIFE SAVING HEROIN BILLS

Albany, N.Y. – 06/09/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) voted today with his colleagues to pass nearly two dozen pieces of legislation aimed at addressing issues surrounding the increase in heroin and opioid abuse in New York State.

In March 2014, Senator Greg Ball was appointed to the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction. The bipartisan task force, chaired by Senator Phil Boyle (R-C-I, Suffolk County), examined the issues and solicited input from experts and other stakeholders about addiction prevention and treatment options, the rise in heroin and opioid use, and the potential for drug-related crimes and other negative community impacts.

CAPITAL NY: LAWMAKERS (AND PETS) GATHER TO CALL FOR ANIMAL-ABUSE REGISTRY

ALBANY—Hundreds of animal-rights activists gathered at the legislative office building Wednesday morning to listen to lawmakers and advocates call for a statewide animal-abusers registry and tougher penalties for abuse.

The event is held every year, and is put together by Assemblyman Jim Tedisco. The event is centered around giving attention to New York animal advocacy groups and rescue organizations, and highlighting both the successes and failures of animal rights legislation for the year. The event sees high attendance from legislators on both sides of the aisle, due to its largely nonpartisan nature and agreeable politics.

LEGISALTIVE GAZETTE: DEADBEAT PARENTS BILL PUNISHES THOSE WHO QUIT WORK TO ESCAPE CHILD SUPPORT

The Senate has passed a bill to crack down on deadbeat parents.

The bill (S.2292), sponsored by Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, and co-sponsored by Sen. Joseph Addabbo, D-Ozone Park, aims to create consistency in first-degree and second-degree offenses of non-support of a child by a person who avoids employment to escape child support payments.

CAPITAL NY: BALL MAKES DRONE REGULATION A FINAL PRIORITY

ALBANY—One of State Sen. Greg Ball’s final legislative priorities is to make sure unmanned drones are friendly players in New York’s airspace.

Ball submitted a bill this week outlining when it is and isn’t OK for a satellite or an unmanned aerial vehicle to take images of people on private property, and makes it a crime to illegally use said drones—or use them to fire, “launch or transmit an electronic signal or kinetic projectile” in New York’s airspace.

SENATOR GREG BALL HONORS BREWSTER FIREFIGHTER FOR HEROIC LIFE-SAVING ACTIONS

Albany, N.Y. – 05/19/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I –Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, paid tribute to a Brewster firefighter Ryan Blackwell on Monday afternoon for his prompt and heroic actions on September 14, 2013.

Ryan Blackwell was officially recognized by the New York State Senate with a Senate Resolution for his heroism in rescuing a 54 year-old Bronx woman from a fatal apartment fire. He discovered her on the floor of a smoke-filled hallway after fighting to keep the fire from spreading.

SENATOR BALL’S ‘DEAD BEAT PARENT’ BILL PASSES NYS SENATE

Albany, N.Y. – 05/13/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, announced that his legislation (S2292) aimed at cracking down on ‘dead beat parents’ has passed New York State Senate.

“Those that are legally obligated to provide child support should not be allowed to escape criminal prosecution if they deliberately avoid paying child support,” said Senator Greg Ball. “It is my hope that this legislation will send a strong message to dead beat parents. I urge my colleagues in the Assembly to follow the Senate’s lead and pass this bill.”
