OP-ED: CHAIRMAN GREG BALL URGES FOR PASSAGE OF “JOBS FOR HEROES” PROGRAM

On October 20, 2004 President George W. Bush signed an executive order expanding business opportunities for service-connected disabled veteran owned businesses. The order created a 3% Federal contract set aside for our Nation’s heroes. In addition to the Federal government’s action, 44 other states have also enacted similar legislation. However, New York has fallen to the back of the pack and hasn’t yet created this set aside for our heroes.

Two local families who lost their sons to drug addiction will participate in a drug crisis roundtable at Carmel Town Hall at 6 p.m. Feb. 13.

The Salomone and Christiansen families organized a series of forums to promote awareness and provide resources and support to those individuals and their families affected by drug addiction.

CAPITAL NY: AT SENATE HEARING, DOCTORS ASK FOR OUT-OF-NETWORK CHANGES

ALBANY—Doctors and patients pleaded for changes to out-of-network health care coverage, at a hearing convened on Monday by the State Senate’s health committee.

“The confusion in the marketplace is beyond what I can comprehend and advise,” said ophthalmologist Dr. Patricia McLaughlin, who told lawmakers she’s losing patients due to insurance restrictions. “I’m looking at less than six months that I can stay in business and I’m very frightened.”
