Sign The Petition To End The Torture

Sign Senator Greg Ball’s Petition to ban the possession and harboring of killer whales in New York State aquariums and sea parks.

The legislation (S6613) was introduced after the documentary “Blackfish” highlighted the captivity and confinement of Tilikum, an orca whale that has been in confinement for the past 30 years. Large marine animals, such as orca whales, can develop health issues and become agitated from living in the confined spaces that aquariums and sea parks offer.

HUDSON VALLEY REPORTER: PEEKSKILL CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVES STATE FUNDING FOR PRE-K PROGRAM

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. –  The Peekskill City School District has received received $171,154 in state funding to start a Peekskill Priority Pre-K Program (4P Program).

The 4Ps Program will create one new full-day inclusion class and will convert two half-day classes to full-day classes, creating a total of three new full-day placements, which will serve a total of 60 children. The class schedules will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Arc of Westchester’s Children’s School for Early Development, which will receive 10 percent of grant funds as a purchased service, will provide aid in staffing the inclusion class.

LOHUD: CUOMO’S PLAN TO EDUCATE PRISONERS FACES OPPOSITION FROM LAWMAKERS

ALBANY — Some state lawmakers Tuesday criticized Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to use public money to fund college for prisoners.

Cuomo has faced opposition to his proposal announced Sunday to spend up to $5,000 an inmate to help them achieve a college degree. Cuomo said the program would cut down on recidivism and ultimately lower the roughly $60,000 a year it costs to house a prisoner.
