Senator Rivera was the Keynote Speaker at SoBRO’s South Bronx Leadership Forum

Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) was the keynote speaker at SoBRO’s South Bronx Leadership Forum on Thursday, where he addressed an audience of students, community leaders and business leaders. Senator Rivera spoke on the need for government to partner with business, educational institutions, grassroots organizations and community members in order to bring about responsible community and economic development.

Senator Rivera Hosts Second Town Hall Meeting as Part of District 33 Tour

Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) and Assembly Member Jose Rivera held a Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, May 15 at the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center. This is the second in a series of town hall meetings that Senator Gustavo Rivera is hosting throughout the 33RD Senate District over the next month. The next town hall meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 6:30PM-8:00PM at Twin Parks – 1880 Valentine Ave. Bronx, NY.

Senator Rivera Congratulates Freddy Ferrer on Nomination to the MTA, Praises Governor Cuomo for Appointment

Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) today issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Fernando Ferrer by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority:

Senator Rivera and Assemblywoman Meng Denounce Secure Communities, Applaud Actions of Illinois Governor

New York, NY - Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) and Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-Queens) issued the following statement in response to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's decision to keep Secure Communities out of Illinois and terminate the program in counties and cities that had already begun to participate in the program. Senator Rivera Recognizes Autism Awareness Month, Announces Support for Autism Insurance Legislation

Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) recognized Autism Awareness Month and announced his support for legislation that would provide screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, help to end discriminatory practices impacting New Yorkers. Senator Rivera presents Celia Cruz Winning Choir with Senate Resolution Honoring their Hard Work and Excellence

Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) presented the Celia Cruz High School Choir with a Senate Resolution honoring them for being named the Best Choir in New York City as part of the Sing! for Wildlife competition. This was the first Senate Resolution Senator Rivera introduced and passed through the State Senate.

Senator Rivera spoke to the students congratulated the students on being an example of the great accomplishments, both artistic and educational, that can come from a commitment to arts education.

New York, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera was joined by 20 Senators yesterday afternoon in co-signing a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo, urging him to maintain the personal income tax level for the wealthiest New Yorkers to ensure Middle Class and low-income New Yorkers do not bear the sole burden of the shared sacrifice necessary to get us through these difficult times.

In the letter, Senators voice their concern over cuts to education, Medicaid and public safety that would disproportionately impact our most vulnerable citizens in low and middle-income communities and communities of color.

Senator Gustavo Rivera released the following statement in reaction to Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.’s State of the Borough Address:

“Bronx Borough President Diaz focused on some of the key issues impacting Bronxites: income disparity, education, health and economic development, including the redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory. I was heartened to hear the Bronx Borough President talk about an unsettling and difficult reality regarding income disparity in New York City. New York City has the highest income disparity in its modern history and the state of New York has the highest income disparity of any other state. Bronxites are feeling squeezed by 13% unemployment in the Borough and record-high income disparity.

Senator Rivera Releases Video, Urges Fellow Legislators to Keep their Campaign Promises to Pass Ethics Reform
