Senator Rivera Launches Series of Public Safety Workshops

Bronx, NY - Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) hosted his first in a series of public safety workshops in partnership with STEPS to End Family Violence on the issue of Bullying and Cyber Bullying. Parents, teenagers and community leaders attended the workshop to share stories of bullying and ways to prevent and address cyber-bullying and bullying in schools.

Senator Rivera Hosts Community Conversation on Stop & Frisk, This is the Third Workshop in a Series of Public Safety Workshops

Bronx, NY - Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) partnered with 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care to host a community conversation on Stop and Frisk last Thursday, May 17th at 6:00PM. Dozens of Bronx residents engaged in a dialogue about their experiences with law enforcement and about how to proceed if stopped by the police. Some audience members, including Senator Rivera, participated in skits that portrayed both good and bad behavior when individuals are stopped by law enforcement officials.

Senator Rivera and Democratic Senate Colleagues Urge Senator Maziarz to Drop Dangerous New York Stand Your Ground Legislation

Bronx, NY - State Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) joined twenty-three of his Democratic colleagues in sending State Senator George Maziarz a letter regarding S.281, a New York Stand Your Ground bill.  The Stand Your Ground legislation in Florida has most recently been used in Florida as a rationale for why there has been a lack of action taken in apprehending and prosecuting the man who killed Trayvon Martin.
