Senator Rivera Hosts Second Town Hall Meeting as Part of District 33 Tour

Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) and Assembly Member Jose Rivera held a Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, May 15 at the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center. This is the second in a series of town hall meetings that Senator Gustavo Rivera is hosting throughout the 33RD Senate District over the next month. The next town hall meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 6:30PM-8:00PM at Twin Parks – 1880 Valentine Ave. Bronx, NY.

Senator Rivera Congratulates Freddy Ferrer on Nomination to the MTA, Praises Governor Cuomo for Appointment

Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) today issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Fernando Ferrer by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority:

Senator Rivera, Assembly Member Castro and Council Member Cabrera Met with Constituents at Town Hall Meeting

Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx), Assembly Member Nelson Castro (D-Bronx) and Council Member Fernando Cabrera (D-Bronx) held a Town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 11 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Bronx Works Morris Senior Center. An active member in her Bronx community, Ms. Washington has made a second career out of serving as a leader and grassroots activist working to make New York City a better place to live. As a community gardener and advocate, Ms. Washington has worked with  neighborhoods to turn empty lots into community gardens. She has stood up and spoken out for garden protection and preservation and the need for fresh vegetables. As a member of the La Familia Verde Garden Coalition, Ms. Washington launched a City Farms Market, bringing garden fresh vegetables to her neighbors in the Bronx.

Senator Rivera and Assemblywoman Meng Denounce Secure Communities, Applaud Actions of Illinois Governor

New York, NY - Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) and Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-Queens) issued the following statement in response to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's decision to keep Secure Communities out of Illinois and terminate the program in counties and cities that had already begun to participate in the program. Illinois is the first state to reject a presence of ICE after Secure Communities had already begun to operate within its borders.

Senator Rivera Recognizes Autism Awareness Month, Announces Support for Autism Insurance Legislation

Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) recognized Autism Awareness Month and announced his support for legislation that would provide screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, help to end discriminatory practices impacting New Yorkers. Senator Rivera presents Celia Cruz Winning Choir with Senate Resolution Honoring their Hard Work and Excellence

Bronx, NY – Senator Gustavo Rivera (D,WF-Bronx) presented the Celia Cruz High School Choir with a Senate Resolution honoring them for being named the Best Choir in New York City as part of the Sing! for Wildlife competition. This was the first Senate Resolution Senator Rivera introduced and passed through the State Senate.

Senator Rivera spoke to the students congratulated the students on being an example of the great accomplishments, both artistic and educational, that can come from a commitment to arts education.

The public advocate announced Monday an eight-point program to punish bad landlords and warn apartment hunters away from their buildings, and part of the initiative involves a partnership with Craiglist.com. NY1's Dean Meminger filed the following report.

Broken door knobs, leaky ceilings and faulty light fixtures are just some of the problems residents face at 319 East 197th Street in Fordham, Bronx.

"The wires are alive, the water comes through there. I am scared because of a fire or something," said resident Rosanna Pena.

Senator Rivera Visits Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On March 25th, Friday afternoon, Senator Rivera visited the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center's new 'Room to Grow' program. Over a hundred parents and toddlers came out to celebrate the opening. That same afternoon, the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center hosted a Safer Sex/AIDS Awareness fair Event, where Senator Rivera stopped in to greet parents and kids.
