Senator Farley Discusses Emergency Preparedness

Senator Farley addresses the Citizen Preparedness Training Program in Schenectady on March 1st. Several years ago, the American Red Cross conducted a presentation at the State Capitol called “Preparing for the Unexpected,” and they asked state legislators to help spread the word about how important it is for families to take certain basic steps to prepare themselves for any type of emergency. Out of that original presentation, Senator Farley created a brochure that offered some basic safety tips and checklists. Senator Farley Greets 4-H’ers at Capital Days

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting 4-H’ers at their annual Capital Days event in Albany. 4-H Capital Days gives youth an opportunity to meet and interact with legislators and tell their 4-H story, create an awareness of career opportunities in New York State government, better understand state government, and network with delegates from other counties. Senator Farley Participates in Mother Teresa Academy’s Literacy Week

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of touring Mother Teresa Academy, located in Clifton Park, on March 4th. He also read books to several students as part of the school’s Literacy Week activities. Principal Dr. John G. Metallo, first grade teacher Abigail Mason, and second grade teacher Heather Mound also enjoyed the Senator’s readings. Senator Farley said at least 15 minutes a day of reading to children or encouraging other language activities could make a difference in a lifetime of learning.

They discussed a variety of issues concerning health and education during the New York State Occupational Therapy Association Lobby Day.

Library Advocacy Day was Feb. 26th in Albany and as the Chair of the Senate Select Committees on Libraries, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) met with representatives from around the State, including members of the Central New York Library Association and the Mid York Library System, to discuss legislative initiatives and the concerns librarians have with the proposed Executive Budget for 2014-2015.

Transportation Joint Legislative Budget Hearing

The fourth Joint Legislative Hearing, in a series of 13 hearings, will be held on Thursday, January 30th.

During the Transportation hearing, which is part of the legislative process to review the 2014-2015 Executive Budget, transportation agency officials and representatives of transportation infrastructure advocacy organizations will have an opportunity to address the Senate and Assembly fiscal committees.

These joint legislative hearings will continue through Tuesday, February 11th, and are available for live viewing on the Senate and Assembly, but will be preempted when the houses are in session. At the conclusion of the legislative deliberations, live televised coverage of the hearings will resume.

Senator Farley Celebrates 1st National Bank of Scotia’s 90th Anniversary

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of presenting a New York State Senate Citation to the 1st National Bank of Scotia for its 90th Anniversary on November 22nd at its Customer Appreciation Day. The Senator presented the Citation to Bank President John Buhrmaster at the bank’s Main Office on Mohawk Avenue in Scotia.

Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) was honored to receive the First Patriot Award on November 9th at the Saratoga Hilton from Patriot Hills of New York for his ongoing support and dedication to veterans. He received the award during the organization’s Military Ball and Veterans Gala, a night dedicated to the military. Patriot Hills provides support to veterans and their families with issues such as reintegration, job placement and educational opportunities.

Senator Farley Salutes Veterans With Brown School Students

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of participating in a Veterans Ceremony hosted by Schenectady’s Brown School on November 8th. As part of the ceremony, Senator Farley presented John and Karen McKenna, parents of the late Captain John McKenna, with a Senate Citation recognizing them for their efforts to help families who have lost a loved one in the military. The students at the Brown School also created an impressive American Flag out of tuna and Campbell's Soup cans on Friday and donated the food to area food pantries.
