Senator Farley Salutes Union College Hockey Team

Members of the Union College Men’s Hockey Team were the guests of State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) on Wednesday, May 7th, in the Senate Chamber at the New York State Capitol. The Senator presented a New York State Senate Resolution honoring the team and they were introduced to the entire New York State Senate.The resolution congratulated the Union College Men’s Hockey Team and Coach Rick Bennett upon the occasion of winning the NCAA Division 1 Championship.

Senator Farley Enjoys Adirondack Day

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) enjoyed the exhibits at Adirondack Day, held in the Well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany on May 5th. A day designed to promote the Adirondack region, exhibits included animals, food samples, demonstrations such as fly fishing, and music.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) met with representatives from the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association on April 28th in Albany to discuss legislation that concerns the lumber retail industry. May 3rd Is I Love My Park Day in NYS

Saturday May 3rd, is I Love My Park Day in New York State. Organized by the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Parks & Trails New York, the day is designed to celebrate and enhance New York’s parks and historic sites. Volunteers will participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events on May 3rd. Participating parks include Johnson Hall, Grant cottage, and Saratoga Spa State Park. Senator Farley Promotes Becoming "Digitally Literate," 4-22-14

Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady), Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries, had the pleasure of attending a kickoff event by the Ballston Senior Connection at the Town of Ballston Community Library on April 22nd. The event promoted a town-wide survey that encourages seniors to access the Internet and to become “digitally literate.”

Many Volunteer Fire Departments Hosting Open Houses This Weekend

Volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line every day to make our communities safe. Their dedication cannot be overestimated. However, the number of volunteers has declined drastically over the past decade. As part of an initiative called Recruit NY, man volunteer fire departments from across the state will open their doors this Saturday and Sunday, April 26th and 27th, as they look for new volunteer members.

These open houses will provide information about free training programs, responsibilities and what a typical day-in-the-life of a volunteer firefighter involves. A complete schedule can be found at www.recruitny.org/opendoors.php.

Senator Farley Joins Yellow Ribbon Day Ceremony

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) attended the Yellow Ribbon Ceremony on April 9th in Saratoga County. He presented Carol Hotaling of Clifton Park with copies of the New York State Senate Resolution recognizing April 9th as Yellow Ribbon Day in New York State. Hotaling, known as the “Yellow Ribbon Lady”, created the day to remind people about the sacrifices made by America’s military personnel, and honor and remember U.S. prisoners of war and those missing in action around the world. Also at the ceremony were Southern Saratoga Chamber President Peter Bardunias and Past President of the Blue Star Mother’s Janet Moran.

Senator Farley Discusses Veterans Legislation

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting with Tom Rielly of Ballston Spa on March 18th when Mr. Rielly came to the Capitol to discuss the priority issues of the American Legion. He also discussed with Senator Farley the legislation to set aside certain State contracts for disabled veteran owned businesses.

Senator Farley is pleased to report back to Tom and other veterans that he co-sponsored the bill and it passed the Senate on March 24th. The “Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act” is designed to help New York’s Service Disabled Veterans pursue successful new business ventures. A three-way agreement on the bill was announced during the Governor’s Veterans and Military Families Summit held last week in Albany.
