The New York State Senate overwhelmingly approved a resolution today (February 9th) calling on President Obama and the U.S. Attorney General to move the trials of terrorists involved in the 9/11 attacks.State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) was one of several Senators on both sides of the aisle to speak in support of this resolution.The federal government has been planning to hold these trials in New York City.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announces the formation of the new Senate Republican Task Force on Medicaid Fraud.

"Medicaid fraud continues to drive up spending and taxes at both the State and the local levels," Senator Farley said. "Medicaid waste is a critical issue to my constituents and, therefore, I asked to be a member of this task force to help identify solutions to this problem."

The murder of community residence worker Renee Greco in Lockport and the shooting of Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio has spurred a special legislative task force to seek state records for answers related to the increase of youth violence.

The grave situation involving the restriction of the Batchellerville Bridge is disturbing and I have contacted the Governor numerous times about the future of this bridge and the negative effects of both the current alternating one-way traffic and the future possible closure. I am calling for quick action to replace the bridge so this region does not have to go through a situation that citizens of Crown Point are currently facing --- a closed bridge with jobs on the line and potential emergencies becoming fatal due to slow response times.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) is pleased to announce he has heard from Governor David Paterson's office that the changes to the controversial Great Sacandaga Lake permit system have been withdrawn for the time being.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady), Assemblyman Marc Butler (R - Herkimer), and Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward (R, I – Willsboro) continue to be concerned with the latest development in the Great Sacandaga Lake permit system. At the recommendation of the State Department of Environmental Conversation (DEC), the Hudson River-Black River Regulating District (HRBRRD) is proposing to dramatically overturn the longstanding permit system and allow the entire lake's shorelines to become completely open to the public.

Starting June 1st, New Yorkers will be paying more for bottled water, paying more for purchases made over the Internet and paying more for auto insurance as a result of tax increases passed by Democrats in the Senate and Assembly as part of the 2009-10 state budget, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) said.

In addition, June 1st tax hikes will hit companies that transport employees in and out of New York and double a state fee on auto insurance policies.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his fellow members of the Senate Republican Conference sent a letter on May 5th to Governor David Paterson, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, urging them to address a problem created in the state budget, that is forcing businesses located in Empire Zones to give the state what amounts to an interest-free loan of more than half a billion dollars.
