SENATOR FARLEY REMINDS CONSTITUENTS OF FACEBOOK APP THAT TRACKS SEX OFFENDERS

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) has both a regular website and a Facebook page where locations of local sex offenders can be obtained, said State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady).

The Sex Offender Locator application, which is accessible via the New York State Public Safety Facebook page, makes it easier for parents who want to quickly look up information regarding Level 2 and Level 3 Sex Offenders within their immediate area.

Sen. Farley Reports NYS Senate Passes Legislation to Crack Down on Illegal Prescription Drug Abuse

With the abuse of illegally-obtained prescription narcotics growing rapidly, the New York State Senate has recently passed several bills to curb the black market in prescription pain killer.

This legislation includes calling for greater controls on Hydrocodone and Tramadol, highly addictive prescription pain medications, and increasing criminal penalties for physicians and pharmacists who illegally divert prescription drugs. It also calls for criminalizing the illegal sale of a controlled substance by a practitioner or pharmacist to address practitioners operating "mills," which fuel the black market for controlled substance medication, and it would also criminalize the first-degree illegal sale of a controlled substance to a minor under the age of 14.

Senator Farley and Assemblyman Tedisco join families, advocates to call for new law to terminate driving privileges forever for repeat drunk, dangerous drivers

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) joined with advocates and families who lost loved ones to drunk and dangerous drivers to call for new legislation to help make our roads safer by permanently terminating the driver’s license privileges for serial drunk and dangerous drivers.

On Wednesday, Anthony Gallo, who had 10 suspensions on his driver’s license, was indicted for aggravated vehicular homicide among other charges for being under the influence of drugs and running a red light when he struck and killed 19-year-old Casssandra Boone in November 2011 as she walked across the street at the intersection of Erie Boulevard and State Street in Schenectady.

SENATOR FARLEY: SENATE, ASSEMBLY & GOVERNOR JOIN FORCES TO EXPAND DNA DATABANK

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) today announced that the State Senate has voted to approve legislation that will implement the largest expansion of the State’s DNA databank since it was first created in 1994.

The databank expansion, which has been agreed to by Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Assembly, will help close thousands of unsolved cases, bring justice to crime victims, and help prevent dangerous criminals from committing additional crimes.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) reported the New York State Senate passed a package of eight bills this week to prevent sexual predators from obtaining access to potential victims and help law enforcement and communities keep track of their whereabouts. The bills will help increase the amount of information available about convicted sex offenders and seeks to prevent them from obtaining access to vulnerable individuals.

SENATE RENEWS CALL FOR MEASURES TO FIGHT AUTO INSURANCE FRAUD

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently joined law enforcement, insurance advocates, and victims to press for the Assembly's passage of three auto insurance fraud prevention bills before the end of the Legislative Session.

The package of legislation passed by the Senate would cut down on auto insurance scams by increasing penalties for those who commit or assist in the fraud and gives more flexibility to insurance companies to prevent such criminals from getting policies and committing auto fraud, Senator Farley reported.

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION WHICH MAKES VIEWING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY A FELONY

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation (S.7407) that would make the viewing of child pornography a felony crime. The bill amends current state law to say that a person is guilty of a crime when the person knowingly accesses child pornography with the intent to view.

The legislation comes after a state Court of Appeals ruling earlier this month that said viewing child pornography on the Internet is not a crime. This legislation closes that loophole.

The bill has been sent to the Assembly.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO PROTECT TEENS FROM SEXUAL PREDATORS AT SCHOOLS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation that would make it a crime for school employees to engage in sexual activity with students, including those who are older than New York’s legal age of consent. The bill (S.6714) addresses inappropriate student-school employee relationships by criminalizing sexual conduct between school employees and full-time students of elementary and secondary schools.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO CRACK DOWN ON COLLEGE HAZING

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation to prevent the tragic injuries and deaths that can occur due to hazing at colleges and universities. The bill (S.1937) would help cut down on hazing by strengthening a college or university's enforcement authority and increasing awareness of the consequences of hazing, underage drinking, and illegal drug use.

In spite of good faith efforts on the part of institutions of higher education to implement policies and procedures to combat hazing, problems continue and show no signs of decreasing.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO KEEP VIOLENT REPEAT OFFENDERS IN PRISON

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation torequire certain violent felons to serve their maximum prison term if there is evidence that their release would pose an imminent threat to society.

The bill (S.6020A) would help protect the public by keeping repeat offenders off the streets and limit “ behavior” and other rewards fromreducing the time spent in prison.
