BILL WOULD ALLOW LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO 'PIGGY-BACK' ON PROCUREMENT CONTRACTS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate approved legislation (S.5525B) on June 20th that would allow local governments to cooperatively purchase, or piggy-back, on contracts already approved for other government agencies, including those of other states or the federal government.

The same terms and conditions of a contract already awarded would apply and there is a provision in the legislation to ensure that competitive bidding standards consistent with state law must have been used.

Subject: Key Priorities as 2013 Session gets Underway

With the Governor kicking off the 2013 Legislative Session on Wednesday with the annual State of the State Address, I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of my key priorities as the new Legislative Session gets underway.

Providing Tax Relief: Mandate relief continues to be a priority to me as counties, local municipalities and schools struggle with their budgets. I will also be redoubling my efforts to fight for additional tax relief at the State and local levels.

Creating Jobs: We must also focus on pursuing policise that will help revitalize our economy, strengthen small businesses and create thousands of good, new jobs for our local economy.

Statement from Senator Farley Regarding the 2014 State-of-the-State Address

The Governor gave his State-of-the State Address on Wednesday January 8th, an outline of his goals for the year. It also kicks off the 2014 Legislative Session. You can read his written message by clicking here: http://www.governor.ny.gov/assets/documents/2014-SOS-Book.pdf

In the New York State Senate, my colleagues and I will work with the Governor and Assembly to pass another on-time budget, building on our previous passage of three consecutive early budgets.

We will be looking to pass a budget that controls spending and reduces taxes, while still making important investments in our future.

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE PASSES “SUNSHINE WEEK” BILL TO INCREASE PUBLIC ACCESS TO LEGISLATIVE PROCEEDINGS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) reports he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate this week passed legislation to make state legislative proceedings more open and transparent by expanding public access to session, committee meetings, and votes. The bill (S3046C) requires the webcasting and archiving of Senate and Assembly committees and hearings and the online posting of votes taken in committees or on the floor.
