SENATE ACTS TO CREATE NEW PANEL TO SUPPORT AGING VETERANS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate approved legislation on May 16th to help older veterans by creating an advisory committee that specifically assists state officials in addressing important veterans issues. New York has the second highest veteran population in the United States and bill S.3337 focuses on improving the care and state support available to aging veterans by creating a panel of gerontology and veterans’ issue experts.Older veterans represent a population in New York whose needs and problems pervade multiple geriatrics and gerontology disciplines.

SENATE CELEBRATES MEMORIAL DAY WITH PASSAGE OF BILLS TO HELP VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Senator Farley Names Schenectady Veterans Advocate to State Hall of Fame

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) is pleased to announce James A. Wilson of Schenectady was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Flag Day, June 14th, in Albany.

 “I had the pleasure of nominating Jim, a person who has dedicated himself to assisting fellow veterans time and time again through multiple causes and organizations,” Senator Farley said. “I appreciate Mr. Wilson for keeping our country safe and free during his military career. I also truly respect him for his community service and dedication to our fellow citizens.”

 The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.

Senator Farley's Salute to Veterans

"We all know and appreciate our veterans for keeping our country safe and free," Senator Farley said, "but do we ever take the time to tell them? Take time on Veterans Day to shake the hand of a veteran and say 'thank you' -- that all of the sacrifices were worth it. Also remember to thank our current military personnel for their service to our country."

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TO HELP DISABLED VETERANS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation (S.2423) that would give greater access to state contracts to veterans who were disabled during their service.

This bill would codify for New York an identical and highly successful program adopted for federal contracting. Given the increase in the number of veterans and disabled veterans due to recent overseas conflicts, this bill would provide a small measure of recognition that this group of selfless men and women deserve.

Senator Farley Inducts Scotia Veteran into Senate Hall of Fame

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of inducting Master Sergeant Corine Lombardo of Scotia into the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame on May 22nd in Albany.

"Corine is an outstanding veteran, an amazing person and a true asset to her community," Senator Farley said. "Not only has she served our State and our Country, she continues to help her fellow servicemen and women by connecting them with information on benefits and programs that will help them return to civilian life."

Senator Farley Salutes Schenectady Veteran

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) recently presented Albert “Albie” Ferrucci with the New York State Senate Liberty Medal, the highest honor extended by the State Senate. Mr. Ferrucci also received his New York State Medal for Merit and the New York State Conspicuous Service Star, which are awarded by the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs. The award presentation took place in Mr. Ferrucci’s Schenectady law office where he continues to practice law along with his son and daughter.

Senator Farley Votes for Saratoga Women's Veterans Shelter in Facebook Contest

May is National Military Appreciation Month and State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R - Schenectady) said constituents can help our local veterans by voting on Facebook.

The Guardian House, located not far from Senator Farley's District Office in Ballston Spa, is a homeless shelter for female veterans. It is operated by the Saratoga County Rural Preservation Company with support from the Saratoga County Veterans Agency.

The Guardian House just won $25,000 from a Home Depot "Aprons in Action" Facebook contest and is currently in the running for a Home Deport Facebook prize of $250,000. The money would be used for the shelter and to help build a wellness center.
