SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE GIVES FINAL PASSAGE TO BILL ADDING 25 NEW FAMILY COURT JUDGES THAT INCLUDES JUDGESHIP FOR SCHENECTADY

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced the New York State Senate gave final legislative passage today to legislation (S7883) that would help alleviate a backlog of cases in the state’s family courts by creating 25 new family court judgeships. One new judgeship would be established in each of 16 counties, and nine in New York City.

New family court judges would be elected in 2014 in Albany, Broome, Chautauqua, Franklin, Nassau, Oneida, Oswego, Schenectady, Suffolk, Ulster and Westchester counties, and take office January 1, 2015.

New family court judges would be elected in 2015 and seated in 2016 in Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Monroe, and Warren counties.

David T. Wallingford

Captain David T. Wallingford served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1970, serving in combat in Vietnam. Captain Wallingford earned numerous military decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V,” Purple Heart Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V,” Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with Four Stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Armed Forces Meritorious Unit Commendation Cross Gallantry Medal with Palm, New York State Conspicuous Service Cross with One Device and the New York State Conspicuous Service Star.

Constance Glasgow, MD

Constance Glasgow, MD, has practiced pediatrics in Clifton Park since 1966, and was the first pediatrician to open a practice in that community. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn and completed her residency in pediatrics at the Albert Einstein University of Medicine-Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. 

Dr. Glasgow is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is an attending physician at Ellis Hospital, the former St. Clare’s Hospital and the former Bellevue Woman’s Hospital, where she has also served as Chief of Newborn Services.

SEN. FARLEY AND REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES UNVEIL PLAN TO SECURE THE FUTURE OF FAMILY FARMING

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) and fellow members of the Senate Republican Conference unveiled their “Young Farmers NY” plan on March 4th to address issues related to the advancing average age of New York farmers and to preserve the future of family farming. “Young Farmers NY” is a series of proposals to smooth the transfer of farmland to the next generation, preserve existing farmland, and help young farmers overcome obstacles to give them a greater opportunity for a successful career in agriculture.

Senator Farley Offers Safety Tips as Part of Fire Prevention Month

October is National Fire Prevention Month and as part of that commemoration, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) offers safety tips.

"Protecting our loved ones is the responsibility of every parent, neighbor and citizen," Senator Farley said. "That's why it is important to stay informed on fire safety and to take steps to protect yourself and your families."

Senator Farley said it is important that everyone in your family knows to call 911 to report a fire or other emergency. Have your children practice what they would say on the phone in case of a real emergency.

Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of presenting a New York State Senate Citation to Trooper Sean Wells of Ballston Spa upon his graduation from the New York State Police Academy on May 29th at the Empire State Plaza. Trooper Wells was among a class of some 200 graduates.

Allan P. Atwell

Allan P. Atwell PFC is a past Commander and current Chaplain of Clifton Park/Halfmoon VFW Post #1498. In 1943, at the age of 18, he graduated from Breesport High School in Chemung County. A few days later, he visited the Selective Service Board and was drafted.He was assigned to the 28th Infantry Division and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy on Labor Day, 1944.

Marie Valachovic

Marie Valachovic is a tireless educator who has spent her adult life making a difference in the lives of all those she meets. A lifelong resident of Fulton County, Ms. Valachovic graduated from Johnstown High School, where she was renowned for her exceptional all-around athletic abilities. She went on to study at SUNY Oswego, eventually earning a bachelor of science degree in education from SUNY New Paltz. She later earned a masters in reading and a Certificate of Advance Studies in School Administration from SUNY Fredonia.

Senator Farley Names Supreme Court Justice As Woman of Distinction

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of naming Supreme Court Justice Ann Crowell as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction at a ceremony in Albany on May 15th.

"Judge Crowell is an amazing woman," Senator Farley said. "She made history in 2011 when she became the first woman to be elected to the Supreme Court in New York’s Fourth Judicial District, which covers eleven counties." She also served as president of the Saratoga County Bar Association and a board member of both the Capital District and Adirondack Women's bar associations. She is a graduate of Leadership Saratoga and the NYS Governor's Leadership Program. She is also a dedicated Hospice volunteer.

Honorable Ann C. Crowell

The Honorable Ann C. Crowell made history in the November 2011 elections when she became the first woman to be elected to the New York Supreme Court in the eleven county Fourth Judicial District. She is particularly enjoying the experience of assisting attorneys and their clients in reaching settlements that save them from protracted litigation and the drain and expense of trial.
