Senator Farley Introduces Constituents to Senate; Constituent Gives Opening Invocation

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of introducing his guest, Pastor Mark Appell of the Perth Bible Church, on May 12th as Appell gave the opening invocation for the Senate Session in the Senate Chambers, located in the Capitol in Albany. Joining the Senator and the Pastor was Appell’s son.

Senator Farley Notes Bicentennial of Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Birthday

I am pleased to report the New York State Senate has passed a resolution I sponsored which celebrates the bicentennial of the birth of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the founders and leading voices of the women’s rights movements who hailed from Johnstown, Fulton County. While her actual birthday isn’t until November 12th, celebrations and events honoring her have already been held across the State and more are slated throughout the year.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting constituents that were honored at the NYS Senior Citizen’s Day Recognition Event on May 5th in Albany. As part of National Older American’s Month, the event honors the generations that helped build and shape our Nation. Honorees were selected for recognition based on their contributions to their community through volunteerism.

From Fulton County, Senator Farley had the pleasure of honoring Dorothy Blowers and Mary “Kitty” Riznyk, both of Johnstown.

Blowers has over 40 years of service to the Fulton County region. Her volunteer efforts include helping the Fulton County Youth Bureau, Nick Stoner Senior Club, Red Cross, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and Wheelerville School.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of honoring Deborah Gordon Mullaney of Niskayuna with the State Senate’s Woman of Distinction award on May 5th. The program honored distinguished women whose outstanding work in their communities makes them deserving of special recognition by the State Senate.

Senator Farley Meets with NYS PBA

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from the Police Benevolent Association of New York State  on April 28th in Albany. The PBA of New York State represents the New York State University Police, the New York State Environmental Conservation Police, the New York State Park Police, and the New York State Forest Rangers. Peter Barry of Clifton Park and Daniel Federicis discussed with Senator Farley several legislative priorities, including retirement, staffing issues and campus safety.

Senator Farley Discusses Domestic Violence Issues

April 28th was New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence Advocacy Day in Albany and State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) met with several area representatives to discuss legislative priorities. Included in the meeting with Senator Farley were Program Director Elizabeth Bliss from Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Service of Saratoga County (also known as Wellspring), Patty Daily and Kathy Donnellan.

SEN. FARLEY ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSES BILL TO HELP PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation that would make it a criminal offense for those who intentionally or recklessly damage the environment while committing another crime. The bill (S834) would help deter criminal activity and prevent environmental crimes.

In one related incident that took place in the Town of Greece, Monroe County, criminals broke into a spare electrical transformer owned by Rochester Gas and Electric, and stole copper to resell for profit. Removal of the copper resulted in 4,800 gallons of oil being drained from the transformer, causing land and water contamination of the surrounding environment with an estimated remediation cost of over $1 million.

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE PASSES BILL TARGETING PROFESSIONAL SHOPLIFTERS AND OTHER ORGANIZED RETAIL CRIMINALS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed legislation (S3822) to crack down on criminals who try to avoid harsher penalties by committing retail thefts in multiple counties. The bill would allow any county in the state to prosecute someone who participates in a pattern of organized retail theft when at least one of the offenses occurs in a neighboring county.

Senator Farley Participates in Adirondack Day

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting with participants and vendors at the third annual Adirondack Day in the “Well” of the Legislative Office Building in Albany on April 27th. As a native of the Adirondacks, hailing from Indian Lake, Senator Farley enjoyed the annual event celebrating the Adirondacks and its tourism, recreation, history and culture. Senator Farley chatted with Adirondack representatives, including Executive Director of the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages and Mayfield resident Carol Hart, and President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce Garry Douglas.
