SEN. FARLEY ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSES BILL TO CONTINUE HELPING GROUND ZERO WORKERS SUFFERING FROM SEPTEMBER 11th RELATED HEALTH ISSUES

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) reported that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed a bill to continue the September 11th Worker Protection Task Force Act for another five years and help those who have been afflicted with a disability as a result of working at the World Trade Center and other sites. The bill (S4711) would enable the Task Force to continue its work past the current authorization date of June 10, 2015.

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE PASSES BILL TO HELP STOP PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE BY PREVENTING THE THEFT AND SALE OF BLANK PRESCRIPTION FORMS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed a measure to help stop illegal prescription drugs from entering the black market when criminals steal and sell blank prescription forms. The bill, S3402, creates new penalties for the theft, sale, and unauthorized possession of a blank New York State prescription form to prevent drug abuse and the criminal enterprises that help supply drug addictions.

Senator Farley Helps to Launch Program

Neil Golub, State Senator Hugh T. Farley and David Apkarian were in attendance at the MiSciNY Challenger Learning Center launched held earlier today in Schenectady. Senator Farley said, “I was pleased to be an early supporter of the effort to bring a Challenger Learning Center to Schenectady, and was able to obtain two state grants to help secure the necessary charter and undertake the necessary plans and studies.  The Challenger Learning Center will offer a valuable and exciting learning experience for children.  It will be a tremendous asset to Schenectady and the Capital Region, and it will also supplement and enhance the Museum of Science and Innovation, which is a treasured institution in the region.”

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE PASSES MEASURES TO PROTECT CHILDREN

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed four bills to promote the safety and well-being of children and families. The measures would prevent felons from working in child day care programs, increase penalties for child endangerment, protect consumers by preventing unauthorized vendors from selling items like baby food, and help keep military families together by eliminating deployment as a barrier to child custody.

I am pleased to report the New York State Senate has passed a resolution I sponsored which celebrates the bicentennial of the birth of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the founders and leading voices of the women’s rights movements who hailed from Johnstown, Fulton County. While her actual birthday isn’t until November 12th, celebrations and events honoring her have already been held across the State and more are slated throughout the year.

From Fulton County, Senator Farley had the pleasure of honoring Dorothy Blowers and Mary “Kitty” Riznyk, both of Johnstown.

Blowers has over 40 years of service to the Fulton County region. Her volunteer efforts include helping the Fulton County Youth Bureau, Nick Stoner Senior Club, Red Cross, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and Wheelerville School.
