Senator Farley Notes November is NYS History Month and Elizabeth Cady Stanton Day Is Nov. 12th

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) is pleased to inform constituents that November 12th is designated as Elizabeth Cady Stanton Day in New York State.

"This day was picked because Elizabeth's birthday is November 12th," Senator Farley explained. "November is also New York State History Month."

Senator Farley Notes Monday Is Veterans Day

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) reminds constituents that Monday, November 11th, is Veterans Day.

"Veterans Day essentially dates back to November 11, 1919. On that day, our nation first observed Armistice Day. This holiday sought to remember and celebrate the end of World War I, which occurred in 1918 on the eleventh day of the eleventh month on the eleventh hour. That is why many people observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. In 1954, Armistice Day was re-designated as Veterans Day to honor and remember the sacrifices of all the men and women who have served our country in the military," Senator Farley said.

JOIN THE EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN CAMPAIGN

It’s hard to believe, but it is true. Fifty years after the 1963 Equal Pay Act was signed into law, pay discrimination in the workplace still exists in America.

In June, the Senate unanimously passed legislation to strengthen New York’s laws and ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work. However, action is still needed by the State Assembly on this bill.

Senator Farley Honors Fallen Firefighters

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the honor and privilege to speak at the 2013 Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony in Albany on October 8th. The annual ceremony is held during Fire Prevention Week and honors those who gave their lives in the line of duty. The memorial was first dedicated in 1988 and now holds 2,381 names on the wall.

 

"It is important that we always remember, and recognize, the service -- and sacrifice -- made by our firefighters," Senator Farley said. "On behalf of the New York State Senate, let me express our gratitude and appreciation to our firefighters and their families."
