Senator Farley Announces New Ballston Spa District Office Open

 

State Senator Hugh T. Farley has established a new District Office in downtown Ballston Spa, which is open for business.

It is located at 199 Milton Avenue (Route 50), near the corner of Ford Street and Milton Avenue. The telephone number is (518) 885-1829.

"I am pleased to open a new office in this beautiful and historic small village which serves as the county seat for Saratoga," said Senator Farley.  "With the new Senate lines, my district has shifted and I now represent about 60% of Saratoga by territory and 47% by population."

Senator Farley Discusses Library Funding

On March 5th, the New York State Library Association held a Lobby Day and Rally in Albany with the priorities of gaining support for public libraries and restoring funding. State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) attended both the rally and the meeting held in the Well of the Legislative Office Building. Senator Farley has been a longtime supporter of libraries and is the current Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Libraries. "I am proud to have been a lifelong advocate for libraries, and will continue my efforts to assist them in meeting the needs of the public," Senator Farley said.

Senator Farley Unveils "Grown in New York" to Strengthen Agriculture and Family Farms

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his fellow Senate Republican colleagues have created a plan, "Grown in New York" that aims to help New York's family farms prosper.  The goal is to strengthen the State's $5.2 billion agriculture industry by expanding markets for New York-grown products, improving the bottom lines of family farms, and investing in the future of farming.

The Senate's "Grown in New York" plan would:

Strengthening Family Farms by Reducing Taxes on Farmers

Senator Farley Unveils Family Tax Relief Act

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his fellow members of the Senate Republican Conference recently unveiled the Family Tax Relief Act, a package of tax relief and reform measures designed to provide a major economic boost to New York's struggling middle class families.

The Senate Republican plan would increase tax breaks that have not kept pace with inflation, and, in some instances, haven't been adjusted for more than 25 years. The plan also restores the STAR property tax rebate check program to provide real and direct relief to millions of New Yorkers who pay some of the highest property taxes in the country.

Senator Farley Calls on Governor To Remove Utility Tax Surcharge Extension From Executive Budget

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectary) and fellow Senate Republicans recently urge Governor Cuomo to remove the proposed extension of the utility tax surcharge from his Executive Budget. The 18-a surcharge, which has increased utility bills for every ratepayer in the state, is scheduled to expire on March 31, 2014. The Governor's proposed five-year extension would cost businesses and consumers a total of almost $3 billion.

Senator Farley Meets With Merriam Agency to Discuss Business Climate in New York State

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) met with Brian Merriam of Schenectady and President of the Merriam Insurance Agency, Merriam's daughter who is the fifth generation Merriam to work at the company, and James Dick and Joshua Crowder who are several employees of the agency on January 29th in Albany. The agency was in Albany as part of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York Lobby Day and was advocating for an improved business climate in this State as well as voicing their concerns over worker's compensation, health insurance and various laws and regulations. The Merriam Insurance Agency has been in business in New York State for 118 years.

Stay Informed Throughout the State Budget Process

Governor Cuomo has just unveiled his Executive Budget proposal for the State Fiscal Year 2013-14, marking the start of the annual budget debate and negotiation process.

I am carefully reviewing all aspects of the Governor's plan, in order to ensure that it meets the needs of our local communities, as well as our state as a whole. I am already concerned about the school aid portion of his proposed budget and will be examining the numbers thoroughly. I have already heard concerns from schools in my district about their figures. I also share the concerns of local municipalities and schools that we need more action on mandate relief.

Senator Farley Tours Johnstown Library

State Senator Hugh T. Farley took a tour of the Johnstown Public Library with Director Erica Wing on January 25th. Wing invited the Senator to look at improvements the library made with funding obtained by Senator Farley. Senator Farley obtained special education grants in 2012 for all of the libraries in his district, including the Johnstown Public Library. As Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Libraries, Senator Farley said, "I am proud to have been a lifelong advocate for libraries, and will continue my efforts to assist them in meeting the needs of the public."

Subject: Key Priorities as 2013 Session gets Underway

With the Governor kicking off the 2013 Legislative Session on Wednesday with the annual State of the State Address, I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of my key priorities as the new Legislative Session gets underway.

Providing Tax Relief: Mandate relief continues to be a priority to me as counties, local municipalities and schools struggle with their budgets. I will also be redoubling my efforts to fight for additional tax relief at the State and local levels.

Creating Jobs: We must also focus on pursuing policise that will help revitalize our economy, strengthen small businesses and create thousands of good, new jobs for our local economy.
