Senator Farley Salutes Northville Elementary

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting the third and fourth grade students from Northville Central School on June 14th in Albany. The students took a tour of the Capitol, talked with Senator Farley about New York State history, and visited the Observation Deck at the Corning Tower on the Empire State Plaza.

Students in Carla Williams’ third-fourth multi-age class that were on the tour included: Peyton Ausfeld, Seth Bailey, John Buyce, Chloe Edwards, Jenna Ellsworth, Adam LaPort, Daniel Lastro, Lily Millington, Jordan Morales, Katrina Reilly, Daphne Russell, Ali Schermerhorn, Emily Shepard, Ava Trimarchi, Deana Tuthill, Megan Van Nostrand, Chase Wood, Sandra Zarub, and T.J. SENATE PASSES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEGISLATION

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced recently that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed legislation that will protect victims of domestic violence and establish stronger criminal penalties to punish individuals who commit acts of domestic violence.

The bill (S7638) represents a three-way agreement among the Senate, Governor Cuomo and the Assembly. It includes several important provisions included in bills that have already passed the Senate this year, such as bail reforms and increased penalties for domestic violence crimes.

SENATE PASSES "I-STOP" TO REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) reported recently that in response to the escalating problem of prescription drug abuse, the state Senate passed legislation that would make significant changes to the way prescription drugs are distributed and monitored in New York State.

The bill (S7637) includes "real time" prescription tracking to provide more information to doctors and pharmacists, in an effort to prevent deaths from abuse and overdoses of prescription drugs, particularly painkillers.

NEW YORK STATE SUMMER READING PROGRAM LAUNCHED

The New York State Library, teaming up with the more than 1,100 public libraries and neighborhood branches statewide, today announced the kick-off of "Summer Reading at New York Libraries," the 2012 New York State summer reading programs. Through these programs, young people will have the opportunity to access the vast resources of New York’s public libraries to support their summer reading and to gain recognition for what they achieve.

Through participation in these programs young people can receive reading lists and participate in programs and activities at their local libraries. At the end of the program, participants receive formal recognition for their reading achievement.

SENATE UNVEILS "JOBS-NY" JOB CREATION PLAN

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently announced the Senatepassed legislation to implement the 2012 NEW JOBS-NY Job Creation Plan. The Senate's comprehensive plan will help create thousands of new private sector jobs by delivering tax relief to small businesses and manufacturers, reducing energy costs, and enacting major fiscal reforms to make New York State more economically competitive.

Senate Republicans first approved a small business tax cut plan as part of its budget resolution in early March. However, the tax cuts were not included in the enacted 2012-13 state budget.

NYS Legislators Led By Farley, Tedisco, Amedore, Lopez and Senate Agriculture Chair Ritchie Call for “Family Farmers and Apple Growers Relief Act"

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady), Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga), Assemblyman George Amedore (R,C,I-Rotterdam) and Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R,C,I-Schoharie) today joined with Senate Agriculture Chair Patty Ritchie (R,C-Oswegatchie) and farmers to announce new legislation, the “*Family Farmers and Apple Growers Relief Act*” to help apple growers and farmers who have lost a significant amount of their crops due to the extreme weather state area has experienced this year.

At the beginning of the 2012 growing season, New York farmers experienced widespread damage and loss to their crops as a result of an extremely rare and severe frost.

Senator Farley Honors Outstanding Schenectady Bands at NYS Senate

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of introducing the band students from Schenectady High School and its John Sayles School of Fine Arts to his colleagues at the New York State Senate on May 30th as he sponsored a Senate Resolution honoring their achievements at a recent music festival in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Celebrate New York's Museums May 31st - June 6th

I had the pleasure of supporting a New York State Senate Resolution today that officially kicks off the 1st Annual New York State Museum Week, which starts today, May 31st, and runs through June 6th. This week is a great time to visit and support local museums and enjoy the unique attractions our areas provide, ranging from historical homes to living history museums and cultural attractions. About a dozen museums and historic sites in my district are officially partaking in this event. SENATE PASSES BILL TO KEEP VIOLENT REPEAT OFFENDERS IN PRISON

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation torequire certain violent felons to serve their maximum prison term if there is evidence that their release would pose an imminent threat to society.

The bill (S.6020A) would help protect the public by keeping repeat offenders off the streets and limit “ behavior” and other rewards fromreducing the time spent in prison.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady), Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) and Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose) joined families, advocates and Stop DWI Coordinators in advance of the busy Memorial Day travel weekend, to urge safe driving this summer and call for tougher laws to get repeat drunk and dangerous drivers off the roads.

Tedisco, Farley and McLaughlin are calling for new legislation supported by Stop DWI Coordinators that would direct the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to implement regulations to permanently terminate driver’s license privileges for serial drunk and dangerous drivers.

SENATE PASSES BRIDGE REFORM ACT

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed the Bridge and Road Investment and Dedicated Fund Guaranteed Enforcement Reform Act, also known as the BRIDGE Reform Act. The bill (S.1071) will ensure that the dedicated fund, originally enacted in 1991, will go towards rebuilding, replacing and reconditioning highways and bridges to improve the safety of drivers who travel them.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of inducting Master Sergeant Corine Lombardo of Scotia into the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame on May 22nd in Albany.

"Corine is an outstanding veteran, an amazing person and a true asset to her community," Senator Farley said. "Not only has she served our State and our Country, she continues to help her fellow servicemen and women by connecting them with information on benefits and programs that will help them return to civilian life."

The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.
