Senator Farley Helps Dedicate Schenectady ’s $30 Million Golub Corp. Headquarters

Senator Hugh T. Farley (R-C-I, Schenectady) today assisted with the dedication of the new six-story $30 million Golub Corporation headquarters on Schenectady’s Nott Street.         

The project was facilitated by the Schenectady Metroplex. In 1998 Senator Farley developed and sponsored the Schenectady Metroplex law, acclaimed as model legislation offering declining industrial cities new life through a unique mix of public and private cooperation.

Senator Farley Marks Memorial Day 2010

Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C,I – Schenectady) capped his observance of Memorial Day 2010 with visits to three Montgomery County Memorial Day parades on Monday, May 31--Fonda-Fultonville, Hagaman, and the Town of Glen. In the course of the annual observance, Senator Farley marched in eight such parades, the above three, plus Johnstown in Fulton County, Rotterdam and Scotia in Schenectady County, and Corinth in Saratoga County.

Sen. Farley and Members of Special Juvenile Justice System Task Force Call for Carrion's Resignation

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) and fellow members of the Special Legislative Task Force on Reform of the New York State Juvenile Justice System spoke out today against the policies concerning juvenile inmates and are calling for the resignation of Office of Family and Children Services (OCFS) Commissioner Gladys Carrion.

The policy shifts that Carrion is implementing are creating a dangerous environment for staff to work in as well as creating concern within communities on how juvenile criminals will be treated for their personal issues.

Senator Farley Is Frustrated With Budget Process

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) noted today is the day a new State Budget was supposed to be in place for Fiscal Year 2010-11 and he expressed his terrible disappointment with the lack of action and progress.

"We must begin a public budget negotiating process, immediately, to get a budget in place. Senate Republicans have made our budget priorities very clear, starting with no new taxes and fees, and the need for real property tax relief," Senator Farley said.

Republican Plan To Give More Tax Relief Was Defeated

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) reported the comprehensive property tax relief plan proposed by Senate Republicans that would restore STAR property tax rebate checks for every middle-class taxpayer, put a property tax cap in place to control local spending and calls for extensive mandate relief measures to reduce local school district costs, was defeated in the Senate today.

SEN. FARLEY AND MEDICAID TASK FORCE TARGETS WASTE, FRAUD AND ABUSE

On March 17th, State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and members of the Senate Republican Conference released the initial report of the Senate Republican Task Force on Medicaid Fraud and Reform, a sweeping set of policy recommendations that will empower localities to boost their own Medicaid fraud efforts, more aggressively combat waste and the overutilization of services, and save taxpayers up to $500 million a year. The report should be discussed as part of this year’ budget negotiations.

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady), along with his Senate Republican colleagues, announced on March 10th the " Protection and Property Tax Rebate Act," a major new tax cut initiative that would provide a property tax rebate for middle-class taxpayers. The rebate would reimburse homeowners based on much they pay in property taxes and how much they can afford. The plan also includes a cap on property taxes, along with significant mandate relief to further reduce costs. The comprehensive package would usher in a new era of economic freedom for New York’s taxpayers.

SEN. FARLEY SAYS TOUGHER MEDICAID FRAUD EFFORT NEEDED

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and his fellow members of the Senate Republican Task Force on Medicaid Fraud conducted a public forum today in Albany to investigate what savings can be gained from New York’s overburdened Medicaid system. The task force will explore ways in which the State Legislature can assist counties to improve Medicaid fraud prevention efforts, as well as develop recommendations for improving the State’ Medicaid system.

SEN. FARLEY AND REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES UNVEIL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT OF 2010

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and fellow Senate Republicans today joined Richmond County District Attorney Dan Donovan in Albany to unveil the Domestic Violence Act of 2010, a comprehensive effort to strengthen the State’ porous and ineffective domestic violence laws.

The initiative would also create a specific crime of domestic abuse in the State penal law and provide law enforcement with greater tools to stamp out domestic violence.

State Senateor Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and members of the Senate Republican Conference announced on March 2nd that legislation to create thousands of new jobs and turn around the State's economy has been introduced. The jobs plan provides tax credits to businesses that create new jobs, eliminates the State corporate franchise tax for small businesses, and rolls back the personal income tax surcharge that hit small businesses last year.
