State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) reported the New York State Senate passed a state budget that provides millions to support and strengthen New York State’s leading industry – agriculture. The 2014-2015 state budget includes $8 million in new budget funding, the highest level in six years. Funding will go to farming programs and initiatives, as well as towards research, education, and agriculture promotion throughout New York State.

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS 2014-15 STATE BUDGET INCLUDES FUNDING TO IMPROVE STATE’S ROADS, BRIDGES, AND PUBLIC TRANSIT

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) reported the New York State Senate passed transportation budget bills that provide critically important funding for roads, bridges, transit. The unprecedented new investments in our state’s infrastructure and transportation not only improves the quality of life for all New Yorkers, but also keeps our economy moving.

Some of the highlights of the transportation budget include:

* Local Road Improvement Funding: The budget sustains record-level funding of $438 million for the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs). These investments will benefit counties, cities, towns, and villages throughout New York and help municipalities undertake new infrastructure repair projects.

SEN. FARLEY REPORTS 2014-15 BUDGET INVESTS IN STATE PARKS AND HELPS IMPROVE ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced the New York State Senate passed a 2014-15 state budget that helps protect and enhance New York’s natural resources and invests in key environmental initiatives that create jobs, increase tourism, and benefit communities throughout the state. The budget includes a $9 million increase to the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), bringing the total to $162 million, while also making significant investments in improvements to state park facilities and environmental infrastructure.

State Senator Hugh T. SEN. FARLEY REPORTS SENATE PASSES MANDATORY DWI TESTING AFTER SERIOUS ACCIDENTS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) reports that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed legislation this week that would help convict dangerous drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The bill (S1446) would require testing drivers suspected of being under the influence when an accident occurs and results in serious injury or death.

Senator Farley Discusses Veterans Legislation

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of meeting with Tom Rielly of Ballston Spa on March 18th when Mr. Rielly came to the Capitol to discuss the priority issues of the American Legion. He also discussed with Senator Farley the legislation to set aside certain State contracts for disabled veteran owned businesses.

Senator Farley is pleased to report back to Tom and other veterans that he co-sponsored the bill and it passed the Senate on March 24th. The “Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act” is designed to help New York’s Service Disabled Veterans pursue successful new business ventures. A three-way agreement on the bill was announced during the Governor’s Veterans and Military Families Summit held last week in Albany.

SEN. FARLEY CO-SPONSORS BILL FOR STATE CONTRACT SET-ASIDE FOR DISABLED VETERANS

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announced he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed legislation (S6865) on March 24th to facilitate the awarding of state contracts to disabled veterans.

Co-sponsored by Senator Farley, the bill will create a six percent state contract set-aside for service-connected disabled- veteran owned small businesses. The “Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Act” will ensure New York State’s service-connected disabled veterans are better able to compete for millions of dollars in state contracts.
