SENATOR MARTINS REMINDS RESIDENTS ABOUT APPROACHING DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS

Residents Have Until January 2nd to Apply for STAR & Other Property Tax Exemptions

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is reminding residents that the deadline to file applications for New York State’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program and other property tax exemptions with the Nassau County Department of Assessment is January 2nd.

     The STAR program works in two parts:

     • Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment whose adjusted gross income does not exceed $500,000, regardless of age.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING TO SUPPORT MANHASSET-GREAT NECK COMMUNITY PROGRAM

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured state funding for a community program which benefits children in the Manhasset-Great Neck community. 

     The state funding will be used by the Manhasset School District for the Great Neck/Manhasset/Nassau BOCES Parent-Child Home Program. The program provides in-home educational opportunities, including early literacy, for pre-school aged children whose families are in need.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES $81.9 MILLION IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDING FOR LONG ISLAND

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), Chairman of the Senate’s Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee, announced that Long Island will receive $81.9 million in state funding for nearly 100 economic development projects. The funding was awarded as part of the fourth round of Regional Economic Development Council funding, which Senator Martins supported as part of this year’s state budget.

Dream Big  

     Have you ever stepped off a plane in another state and thought, “Wow, this airport is really nice?” Or hopped on a commuter train from that airport that was absolutely pristine? Maybe you’ve taken a road trip with your family and subconsciously noted how new and beautiful their highways were. Oftentimes, when you speak to a New Yorker who has visited another state, you almost always hear these kinds of observations. Then you hear the rants about how New York, one of the richest states in the union, can’t seem to do better.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW TECHNOLOGY AT MINEOLA LIBRARY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured state funding for technology improvements at the Mineola Library. 

     The Library will use the funding for technological equipment and upgrades. This includes the purchase of new laptops, PCs, a server, and a printer which will improve the services the Library is able to offer to the Village.

     “By enhancing the services the Library provides to residents, this new technology will benefit the entire Mineola community. I am pleased to support the Library’s efforts to further improve customer service,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS PARTICIPATES IN PORT HOLIDAY MAGIC

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited downtown Port Washington to participate in Port Holiday Magic.

     Port Holiday Magic is an annual event to help support local merchants and spread holiday cheer through Port Washington. The event, which was sponsored by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, the Port Washington Business Improvement District, and the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, featured performances by local students, singers at different locations along Main Street, and children’s activities.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS WINTHROP UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL’S HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently took part in Winthrop University Hospital’s 29th annual tree lighting ceremony. 

     Senator Martins, along with Winthrop Hospital administration, staff, and local community officials, helped four year old Raphael Palmersen of Westbury, one of Winthrop’s Child Life patients, light the tree. The community event also featured musical performances by the Mineola High School Concert Singers.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Nassau County Legislator Rich Nicolello recently attended the New Hyde Park Knights of Columbus’ annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The ceremony has been an annual community tradition for 30 years.

SENATOR MARTINS SECURES STATE FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS IN PLANDOME MANOR

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $100,000 in state funding for community improvements in the Village of Plandome Manor. 

     The Village will use the state funding to help defray the costs of creating a pedestrian path along the south side of Stonytown Road from Circle Drive near the Plandome Train Station Parking lot to Manhasset Woods Road. In addition, the Village will replace the existing sidewalk with a new sidewalk on the north side of Stonytown Road leading into the Plandome Train Station parking lot. The area is widely utilized by pedestrians and joggers, and the improvements will make it safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable for residents to go walking or running.

SENATOR MARTINS HELPS KICK OFF COAT DRIVE TO BENEFIT THOSE IN NEED

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Rallye BMW in Westbury to help kick off the annual Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association’s (GNYADA) annual coat drive.

     The drive is an annual event organized by GNYADA in partnership with New York Cares to give winter coats to individuals in need. GNYADA collected over 4,000 coats through last year’s coat drive, with the Rallye Auto Group collecting over 1,400. The Rallye Auto Group helped kick off the 2014 drive by making a donation of 220 coats, valued at $20,000.

Residents & Community Groups Invited to Donate New, Unused Toys to Benefit Children in Winthrop’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is inviting residents to participate in his annual holiday toy drive.

     Residents and community organizations are invited to donate new, unused toys to the program. All toys collected will be donated to children in Winthrop University Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW IMPROVEMENTS AT WILLISTON PARK LIBRARY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured state funding for technology and facility improvements at the Williston Park Library.

     The library will use the $25,000 in state funding to upgrade technology at the service desks, thereby allowing staff to assist patrons in a more efficient manner. The library will also be repainting and installing new carpeting in its reading and staff areas.

     “The Williston Park Library is an invaluable resource for local residents. Investing in new technology will help enhance the services the Library provides to the Williston Park community. I am pleased to support the Library’s efforts,” said Senator Martins.
