Shed the Meds- Manhasset

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), in partnership with the Nassau County Police Department and the Manhasset Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse (CASA), is sponsoring a “Shed the Meds” program to help residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications. 

     The “Shed the Meds” program will be held on Saturday, September 19th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Shelter Rock Elementary School (27A Shelter Rock Road, Manhasset).

Breast Cancer Screening Program-Floral Park

     Senator Jack M. Martins, in conjunction with NuHealth, is sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, November 5th from 9 am to 12 pm at the Floral Park Library (17 Caroline Place, Floral Park).

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

     NuHealth’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

     • The program is open to Nassau County women age 40 and over.

Free Prostate Cancer PSA Test Program-Port Washington

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation and Shiel Medical Laboratory, will be sponsoring a free prostate cancer PSA test program in Port Washington. The free PSA blood tests will be provided on Thursday, November 19th between 4 pm and 6 pm at the Port Washington Library (1 Library Drive, Port Washington).

     The Integrated Medical Foundation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

     • Open to all men ages 40 and over who have not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of whether or not they have insurance;

     • Each patient will receive a free PSA blood test;

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Legislator Richard Nicolello will be sponsoring a Property Tax Exemptions Workshop in Manhasset. The program will take place on Tuesday, September 29th from 1-3 pm at the Manhasset Library (30 Onderdonk Avenue, Manhasset).

Free Legal Assistance Program-Westbury

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he will be sponsoring a program in Westbury to provide free legal services to those in need. 

     Senator Martins has arranged to bring the Mobile Legal Help Center to the Westbury Library (445 Jefferson Street, Westbury) on Tuesday, August 18th from 10 am to 3 pm. The Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) and the New York State Office of Court Administration, brings free, civil legal services directly into communities.

Foreclosure Prevention Program-Westbury

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is partnering with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) to provide services and assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure.

     Senator Martins has arranged to have DFS’ Mobile Command Center come to the Westbury Library (445 Jefferson Street, Westbury) on Friday, June 12th from 10 am to 6 pm.

     DFS staff members will be on hand to provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners in need. Depending on individuals' specific situations, DFS staff can help homeowners:

Free Child Safety Seat Check- Port Washington

Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District), in conjunction with the Port Washington Police District and the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board, will be sponsoring a free child safety seat check for families. The program will take place on Saturday, May 30th from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Atlantic Hook & Ladder (25 Carlton Avenue, Port Washington).

Trained officials from the Port Washington Police Department and Nassau County Traffic Safety Board will perform free safety inspections to ensure that drivers have their child safety seats properly installed and secured. Child safety seats can reduce the threat of injury or death by as much as 65 percent, but only if they are installed properly, according to the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board.
