Narcan Training Program-Hicksville

     To help combat the growing epidemic on prescription drug abuse and heroin, Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), County Executive Ed Mangano, and Legislators Rose Walker and Laura Schaefer will be sponsoring a free Narcan training seminar for residents.      With summer approaching, Senator Jack M. Blood Drive- New Hyde Park

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and the Herricks Teachers Association are inviting residents to give the gift of life by participating in a blood drive they are sponsoring on Monday, June 2nd. Breast Cancer Screening Program- New Hyde Park

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Legislator Richard Nicolello (R-New Hyde Park) are sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, June 5th from 8:30 am to 1 pm at the Herricks Community Center (999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park).

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

     NuHealth’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

Free Legal Assistance Program- Westbury

     Senator Jack Martins (R-Mineola) announced that he will be sponsoring a program in Westbury to provide free legal services to those in need. 

     Senator Martins has arranged to bring the Mobile Legal Help Center to the Westbury Library, located at 445 Jefferson Street in Westbury, on Wednesday, May 14th from 10 am to 3 pm. The Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) and the New York State Office of Court Administration, brings free, civil legal services directly into communities.

     NYLAG staff will be available to provide free legal assistance to local residents on issues related to:

Mini-Med School Program

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Winthrop-University Hospital will be sponsoring a free “mini-med school” program to help residents learn what to do in common types of medical emergencies. The program will take place on Thursday, May 1st from 7-9 pm in the Nassau County Legislative Chamber (1550 Franklin Avenue, Mineola).

     Residents who participate in the program will have the opportunity to learn from trained healthcare professionals about what to do if they find themselves in a medical emergency where someone is suffering from:

     • Burns

     • Choking

     • Ear and eye trauma

     • Falls

Heroin and Substance Abuse Prevention Forum

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) will be sponsoring an informational forum on heroin and substance abuse prevention for residents this Tuesday, April 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelter Rock Library (165 Searingtown Road, Albertson). Parents and community members will have an opportunity to hear from a panel of experts on steps they can take to protect their loved ones from the growing epidemic of heroin and substance abuse.

Pet Food Drive

     Senator Jack Martins (R-Mineola) is joining with Long Island Cares in sponsoring a pet food drive to help animals in need.

     “Anyone who has a dog or cat knows that they are not just animals; they become part of the family. When a family falls on hard times, having to give up their pet and place it in a shelter can be devastating for both them and the animal. This program will help support Long Island Cares’ efforts to help ensure that pets can stay in their homes, with their families, where they belong,” said Senator Martins.
