SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES 3-ON-3 BENCH PRESS CHAMPION

As part of the Senator Jack Martins 3-on-3 Classic, a basketball tournament that just completed its 10th year, a bench press competetion was included as part of the the activities, which also included football and lacrosse among others.  Senator Martins congratulated Marlon Fearon of Elmont as the bench press champion.  Marlon is from Elmont and is a radio talk show host.  Congratulations to him and all the other participants for making the day such a big success.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES NuBEST SALON IN MANHASSET

Senator Jack M. Martins congratulated a local business, NuBest Salon in Manhasset, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. Senator Martins presented the NuBest team of Michael Mazzei, Jamie Mazzei, Vincent Mazzei and Christian Fleres with a proclamation, honoring them for their success. NuBest is located at 1482 Northern Boulevard.

Dangerfield Comes Home to Elmont a "Buffalo Bill" for the Martins Classic 3on3!

Jordan Dangerfield, a newly minted Buffalo Bill, will come back home to Elmont at the Senator Jack Martins Classic 3on3 on July 13th. The former All-American Towson Tiger and Hofstra football player will take part in the 10th annual tournament. The 7on7 football element of the tournament is being played in memory of Dangerfield's father, David, a NYC firefighter and 9-11 hero. "Elmont is very excited to welcome home a Dutch Broadway graduate and Elmont favorite son-Jordan Dangerfield," said Senator Jack Martins adding, "we are very proud of him and his entire family."

Lacrosse Challenge and Clinic in Memory of Saintil and Kalu!

The Martins Classic 3on3 announced today that the Old Skool-New Skool Lacrosse challenge will be played for a round 2 game at Dutch Broadway School on July 13th! The game is being played in memory of Marie Rose Saintil and Chinyere Kalu. In addition to the traditional game, a lacrosse mini-clinic will be run by Lacrosse Stars Mustapha Allanah, Cindy Moreno, Gabby Rayan, Wedly Saintil, Jonathan Peck, Qusarn Caldwell, Iffy Kalu, Kevin Johnson, Ben Odugbesan, Isaiah Jackson, Brandon Brown, Seth Johnson and Patrick LaRoque.

Golden Gloves United for 3-on-3!

Three superstar boxers who have captured titles and inspire the greater community with their leadership will be united for a special boxing challenge at the Senator Jack Martins Classic 3on3 on July 13th! Herve' Duroseau, Tyrone James and Titus Williams will be dispensing advice and helping our next generation of community leaders in a special boxing arena at the Tournament. "The boxing challenge will be a lot of fun and will allow all of us to help our young people and encourage them to strive for their dreams," said Herve' Duroseau a lifelong community activist and sponsor of the boxing challenge who added, "my brothers in the ring- Tyrone and Titus are geared up for a great day with Senator Jack Martins!"

Senator Jack M. Martins recently visited the Gzuenter group for their lunch meeting at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center in East Hills. Senator Jack M. Martins attended the 100th anniverary mass at St. Aloysius Church in Great Neck. Ground was broken at St. Aloysius in 1913. The senator was honored to have spent some time with Bishop Murphy while at the mass. Congratulations to the St. Aloysius Church family.

MARTINS WELCOMED TO ARMED FORCES DAY BY SEWANHAKA HIGH SCHOOL BAND

State Senator Jack Martins was welcomed to Armed Forces Day by the members of the Sewanhaka High School Band. The band plays a collection of military favorites and patriotic themes throughout the ceremony to highlight all armed services and community members who are serving. As part of the ceremony, Senator Martins thanked all Veterans and the families of those who are serving in the United States military. During his comments, Senator Martins highlighted some special reflections shared with him by those who are currently serving overseas. SCHOLAR-ATHLETES VISIT SENATOR MARTINS IN ALBANY

Senator Jack Martins welcomed Mohawk Valley Community College basketball player, Dillon Williams (l) and State University of Albany high jumper, Alex Bowen (r) to the State Capitol when the Elmont athletes and outstanding scholars visited the Senator in Albany this week. They shadowed Senator Martins for the day attending several meetings and observing the legislative session. Senator Martins congratulated both young men for their academic and athletic success praising Dillon for his excellent college basketball achievements and Alex for being named an All-American high jumper as well as for his impressive 11th place finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships.

MARTINS AND MANGANO CONGRATULATE GRAND MARSHAL OF BELMONT STAKES PARADE

State Senator Jack Martins and County Executive Ed Mangano congratulated Claudine Hall, President of the Jamaica Square Improvement League, on being selected as the Grand Marshall of the Belmont Stakes Parade. In addition to her civic and community activities, Claudine was the founder of the Elmont Chapter of the NAACP and a recipient of Senator Martins' Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in 2012.

MARTINS MARCHES IN BELMONT DAY PARADE IN ELMONT

State Senator Jack M. Martins marched in the Belmont Day Parade in Elmont this past week. The annual parade marches down Hempstead Turnpike and celebrates the Belmont Stakes Parade. Marching with Senator Martins were Supervisor Kate Murray, Principal John Capozzi of Elmont Memorial High School, Supt. Ralph Ferrie and residents of the Elmont community.

SENATOR MARTINS NAMED HONORARY MEMBER OF MINEOLA GOLDEN AGE CLUB

During the 45th anniversary celebration of the Mineola Golden Age Club, held at Chateau Briand in Carle Place, Senator Jack M. Martins was honored to have been made an honorary member of the club by club president Lillian Barnola. Senator Martins attended many of the club's meeting when he served as Mayor of the Village of Mineola. Now, as Senator, he is an honorary member, which is no small recognition, considering the Mineola Golden Age Club is comprised of the esteemed seniors of the community who helped build the village into the wonderful community it is today. The club has a rich tradition and stays active through its meetings, activities, classes and trips. Senator Martins thanks club president Barnola and all the members for this prestigious honor.

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the Mineola Golden Age Club's 45th anniversary celebration and Chateau Briand in Carl Place. The Mineola Golden Age Club is truly an amazing organization that displays the talents of the Mineola's senior community. The club participates in numerous activies as the members have shared a comraderie and special bond they bring with them from the Mineola Community Center, where they regularly meet, to the casinos of Atlantic City, where the club sometimes travels to for trips.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS BASKETBALL AWARDS CEREMONY AT HENRY VISCARDI SCHOOL

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the awards ceremony for the Henry Viscardi School Basketball Team. Senator Martins was extremely proud to be given the opportunity to recognize the oustanding accomplishments of the members of the team as well as their coach, Joe Slaninka.

Three years ago, Senator Martins invited the team to participate in his annual 3-on-3 tournament that takes place at the Dutch Braodway School in Elmont. This year will be no exception. The Viscardi team will be ready to go on July 13 when the 10th annual tournament takes place. It has become a midsummer tradition and Senator Martins is honored that the students, staff and parents of the Henry Viscardi School family participate.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR NEW HOFSTRA MEDICAL SCHOOL

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins, the newest member of the Senate Standing Committee on Heath. attended the ribbon cutting ceremomy for the new Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. 

The ribbon cutting ceremony signified that ground was broken on a new, 65,000-square-foot expansion that will more than double the size of the school just two years after enrolling its first students. The new facility comes at a critical time since future doctors are needed to accomodate the fact that more people will be insured in the new to come.
