Senator Martins Tours New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Senator Jack M. Martins met with New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine President Yemeng Chen as he toured the college, which is regarded as one of the top schools in the nation for acupuncture.

NYCTCM has a fully-accredited three-year Masters Program in acupuncture. It is located on First Street in Mineola.

Senator Martins Joins Great Neck School in Celebrating School Lunch Superhero Day

The Great Neck School District celebrated School Lunch Superhero Day as Senator Jack M. Martins and Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel joined with Great Neck School District Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance John Powell and Great Neck Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tom Dolan in recognizing school nutrition professionals across the nation. Great Neck has an excellent one in Patricia Daley-Jimenez.

Senator Martins Participates in Community Readers Program at South Salem School

State Senator Jack M. Martins made a special guest appearance at the South Salem Elementary School in Port Washington on an early Friday morning to read with the students. Senator Martins read "Duck For President" by Doreen Cronin as part of the communtiy readers program, which encourages community leaders to become involved in education by encouraging children to read. 

Senator Martins was honored to have spent the morning with the children by taking part in such a valuable program.

Senator Martins Greets Sergeant Frame During West Point Day

During West Point Day in the New York State Senate on April 24, Senator Jack M. Martins greeted Sergeant Robert W. Frame from Albertson. Sergeant Frame is a 1998 graduate of Mineola High School. He enlisted in the Army after graduation. It was an honor for the Senator to greet a hometown hero who has served his country with pride while on the floor of the Senate to recognize the West Point Class of 2013.

Senator Martins Attends SIDMUN Conference 2013

State Senator Jack M. Martins addressed the 20th anniversary of the Sewanhaka Central High School District Model UN held at Carey High School this past week. Conference participants come from Carey, Elmont Memorial, Floral Park Memorial, New Hyde Park and Sewanhaka High Schools. The Model UN program debated issues ranging from agriculture, drug policy, historical issues and current events. Senator Martins opened the conference with a speech discussing current affairs and their impact on the United States. He also presented Model UN officers with a Senate Proclamation to commemorate the conference. Accepting the Proclamation from Senator Martins are Daniel Alohan and Billy Rothwell.

Senator Jack M. Martins was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Nassau County Chapter of the New York Society of CPAs. The Senator was honored to join with the society in discussing important issues to New York State such as efforts in the Senate to give families tax relief by extending tax credits and restoring the STAR rebate checks.

Senator Martins Attends Hofstra Lecture Series on the 'Brutal Fight to Get Sandy Aid'

Senator Jack M. Martins attended the Hofstra University Distinguished Lecture Series. Congressman Peter King was the keynote speaker. The subject was the "Brutal Fight to Get Sandy Aid" and dealt with the struggle following the Hurricane to get Congress to approve FEMA aid to rebuilt regions that were hard hit by the storm.

Guggenheim Elementary School Welcomes Senator Martins as Guest Reader

The Guggenheim Elementary School in Port Washington welcomed Senator Jack M. Martins as a guest reader. The Senator spend a Friday morning after a hectic week in Albany, reading with the students in Mrs. Pheifer's kindergarten class. Senator Martins read "Rocket Writes a Story" with the students.

Senator Martins commented on what a terrific school Guggenheim is and how is looking forward to seeing the students again as they progress through their education in the Port Washington School District, one of the best on Long Island.

Senator Jack M. Martins took part in a forum last night, hosted by the League of Women Voters, in Manhasset about campaign finance reform. Other panelists included Assemblywoman Michele Schimel, NYS League of Women Voters director Carol Mellor and Ian Vandewalker, Democracy Program Counsel for the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law.

Senator Martins Honored to Receive "Pride" Pin from Weber Middle School in Port Washington

Senator Jack M. Martins was at the Weber Middle School in Port Washington for his pizza and politics program. Senator Martins discussed issues in government with sixth grade students. The senator and the students also discussed their entries into Senator Martins' Thanksgiving Essay Contest. The main theme of the essays was giving thanks after Superstorm Sandy hit our region.

At the end of the visit, Principal Marilyn Rodahan presented Senator Martins with the school's "Pride" pin for making the students feel special. The senator was honored to received this distinction from such a wonderful school.

Senator Martins Introduces Governor at SUNY Old Westbury

Senator Jack M. Martins introduced Governor Cuomo at SUNY Old Westbury, where the Governor discussed the state-of-the-state to a packed auditorium. Senator Martins and the Governor both recognized the ability of the executive and legislature to work together the past two years on passing balanced budget that closed billion of dollars in deficits to get New York State on the right fiscal track. They also recognized that there is a lot more to do in keeping New York's economy moving through job creation and economic development.

Senator Martins Attends Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Senator Jack M. Martins was honored to have attended first meeting of the new year of the Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce meeting. Senator Martins spoke about the importance of small businesses as well as economic development efforts in the area, spearheaded by a proposal for the Cosmos to build a state-of-the-art soccer stadium at Belmont Park.
