Work Begins on New Hyde Park PAL Gym

Work has begun to renovate the New Hyde Park PAL gym, including the much needed replacement of the gym floor, which was ravaged by flooding. "I am glad to see that work has begun on the new gym floor for the New Hyde Park PAL. Great job by the PAL is bringing the project to fruition," said Senator Martins.

Attending the most recent meeting were Senator Martins, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Town Councilwoman Lee Seeman, Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello and County PAL director Sergeant Doug Kenah and PAL center director Kevin Worth.

First Meeting Held on NHP PAL Gym Renovation

Members of the New Hyde Park PAL, led by Officer Kevin Worth, the director of the program, met on Monday morning, November 19, to discuss plans for the renovation of the gymnasium at the PAL's headquarters on Denton Avenue in New Hyde Park. Funding is now in place for work to be done renovating the gym, which will include a new gym floor. Work will also be done to alleviate any future flooding programs. Senator Jack M. Martins is assisting the PAL in looking for other revenue sources for the project.

Senator Martins' Grant Funds Reading Program in Elmont

Jack M. Martins was back in Elmont visiting the Clara H. Carlson School to participate in a special "Reading 180" program that has been established in the Covert Avenue, Clara Carlson, Dutch Broadway, Stewart Manor, Gotham Avenue and Alden Terrace Schools. The program is funded through grant funding Senator Martins was able to channel to the Elmont School District. Superintendent Al Harper, Clara Carlson School Principal Ken Rosner and Assistant Supt. Barbara Schwarz briefed Senator Martins on the program that is an aggressive reading program developed by Scholastic. "The Reading 180 program is very impressive and is working in the Elmont School District.

Senator Martins Facilitates Meeting With State DOT, Villages

The project to repave Jericho Turnpike is underway and, in an effort to make sure the communities are well informed, Senator Jack M. Martins facilitated a meeting between representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation and the officials from the Villages of New Hyde Park, Floral Park and Bellerose. The project involves the repavement of Jericho Turnpike, which is a state road that hasn't been repaved in quite some time. While workers will strive to impact communities as little as possible, Senator Martins wanted to ensure that the villages would be kept informed concerning the project and its progress.

Senator Martins had also facilitated a meeting some time ago with the Villages of Mineola and Westbury.

Senator Martins Attends Mineola Street Fair

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the 4th Annual Mineola Street Fair. Merchants, community leaders and residents were out in full force as the village's downtown was busy and alive with music. The fair was sponsored by the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Mineola.

While at the fair, Senator Martins met up with Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss and Deputy Mayor Paul Pereira. The fair began four years ago when Senator Martins was serving as the Mayor of the Village of Mineola as a way to promote the downtown area and its businesses as well as the many worthwhile community organizations the village is blessed to have.

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the Telugu Literary and Cultural Association (TLCA) Picnic, where he discussed issues with members of this prestigious Indian associations. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Christopher Morley Park. Senator Martins was honored to have spent time with the esteemed members of TLCA of New York, one of the earliest Indian Associations in North America and the first Telugu association. The TLCA was formed with the primary goal of promoting the Telugu Literary and Cultural Activities in the tristate area. Successive generations of Telugu children and adults have benefited from its tremendous success towards this goal, as can be seen by the vitality of its programs even 35 years later.

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast, where he gave an update on accomplishments in Albany. Senator Jack M. Martins recently spent a morning with the seniors at the Herricks Community Center. Senator Martins brough dessert and discussed issues with the seniors. Her cherishes the time he gets to spend with the senior community. "Our seniors have so much to teach us. They lived through difficult times our country faced and they persevered," he said.

Whether it's by visiting seniors centers or Funday Monday at Bar Beach during the summer, Senator Martins stays in close contact with the senior community, which, in the Seventh Senate District, is extremely vibrant.

In an effort to give constituents access to his office, Senator Jack M. Martins is holding mobile office hours throughout the 7th Senate District. Recently, he held mobile office hours in the Port Washington Library, where he met with residents and listened to their questions and concerns. Senator Martins Marches in Mineola Homecoming Parade

Senator Jack M. Martins marched in the annual Mineola Homecoming Parade. It was a beautiful early fall day and the Mustang spirit was running high. Mineola Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler, Mineola Principal Ed Escobar, school board members and local elected officials marched with students to the Hampton Street Stadium, where they rooted the Mustangs on to a victory over Locust Valley. Go Mineola!
