SENATOR MARTINS OFFERING FREE PET RESCUE ALERT STICKERS TO RESIDENTS

Stickers Help Alert Firefighters that there are Animals in the House In Case of a Fire

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) is informing residents that his office has free pet rescue alert stickers available to help them protect their pets in an emergency situation.

     The pet rescue alert sticker can be placed on a homeowner’s window or door to notify firefighters that there are animals in the home in the event of a fire. Residents can list the number, type, and names of pets they have so firefighters will know exactly how many animals are in the home.

SENATOR MARTINS HELPS CELEBRATE OPENING DAY OF 2014 LITTLE LEAGUE SEASON IN WILLISTON PARK

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Williston Park Little League in celebrating the opening day of the 2014 little league season. Senator Martins offered his best wishes to the players, coaches, and parents for a fun and safe season.

SENATOR MARTINS TO SPONSOR FREE LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM IN WESTBURY

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he will be sponsoring a program in Westbury to provide free legal services to those in need.

     Senator Martins has arranged to bring the Mobile Legal Help Center to the Westbury Library, located at 445 Jefferson Street in Westbury, on Wednesday, May 14th from 10 am to 3 pm. The Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) and the New York State Office of Court Administration, brings free, civil legal services directly into communities.

     NYLAG staff will be available to provide free legal assistance to local residents on issues related to:

     • Domestic violence

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) was recently honored by the Cow Bay Theatre Company. 

     Senator Martins received the organization’s Spotlight Award “in recognition of his continuing concern and peripatetic efforts to represent the best interests not only the Senate District he represents, in particular, but also those of New York State, in general, while making time to support community theater and other cultural bodies on the most local level whenever possible.”

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS WITH PELE AND NEW YORK COSMOS AT 2014 SEASON OPENER

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the legendary Pele and the New York Cosmos at the opening game of the 2014 season. 

     Senator Martins attended the game and participated in the presentation of the 2013 Soccer Bowl Trophy to the Cosmos in recognition of winning the North American Soccer League (NASL) championship.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES HERRICKS MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT ON RAISING OVER $7,500 FOR CHARITY

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Herricks Middle School to recognize 7th grade student Lexi Zisselman for raising $7,500 for cancer research. 

     Lexi, who lives in New Hyde Park, organized a “Kick for a Cure” fundraiser at Hofstra University to benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in honor of her grandfather who passed away from the disease. Lexi brought together over 275 soccer enthusiasts and raised $7,500 for the foundation to use towards finding a cure for Multiple Myeloma.

SENATOR MARTINS SPONSORS HEROIN AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION FORUM

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently sponsored an informational forum on heroin and substance abuse prevention for residents at the Shelter Rock Library. 

     A panel of experts which included school officials, law enforcement officers, treatment providers, and community officials discussed the growing substance abuse epidemic on Long Island, steps parents can take to protect their loved ones substance abuse, treatment options that are available, ways that treatment can be improved, Residents were also able to ask questions of the panelists.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES CARLE PLACE HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER ON THROWING NO-HITTER

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Carle Place High School to congratulate junior Mike Delio on throwing a no-hitter. 

     Mike not only allowed zero hits, he also struck out every batter. Making the milestone even more special was the fact that Mike was pitching his very first start for the Frogs Varsity Baseball Team.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS MANHASSET RESIDENT FOR HER MANY YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently honored Manhasset resident Lisbeth Shibley for her many years of service to the Manhasset community. 

     Lisbeth Shibley is the founding executive director of the Manhasset Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse (Manhasset CASA). Since founding the organization, Ms. Shibley has worked to educate parents, teens, and community members to the dangers of underage drinking and drugs and their impact on the Manhasset community’s quality of life.

SENATOR MARTINS & WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SPONSORING “MINI-MED SCHOOL” SEMINAR FOR RESIDENTS ON MAY 1ST

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Winthrop-University Hospital will be sponsoring a free “mini-med school” program to help residents learn what to do in common types of medical emergencies. The program will take place on Thursday, May 1st from 7-9 pm in the Nassau County Legislative Chamber (1550 Franklin Avenue, Mineola). 

     Residents who participate in the program will have the opportunity to learn from trained healthcare professionals about what to do if they find themselves in a medical emergency where someone is suffering from:

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate recently honored four members of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department for their 25 years of community service. 

     The Senate passed legislative resolutions, sponsored by Senator Martins, to recognize the following members of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department for their service as volunteer firefighters over the last 25 years:

SENATOR MARTINS & COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR KIDPIX CHILD ID PROGRAM IN PORT WASHINGTON

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, will be sponsoring a free KidPix photo ID program in Port Washington. The program will be held on Thursday, May 8th from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Port Washington Library (1 Library Drive, Port Washington).

     The KidPix program gives parents a convenient way to keep their children’s important information on a single, wallet sized ID card. The KidPix card includes the child’s name, physical description, contact information, and photograph. The child’s fingerprint is also included on the back of the card. In the event that a child goes missing, parents can give the KidPix card to law enforcement as a helpful tool to help return the child home more quickly.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS WILLISTON PARK BOY SCOUTS FOR EARNING SCOUTING’S HIGHEST AWARD

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislative resolutions he sponsored honoring three members of Boy Scout Troop 200 in Williston Park for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. 

     The legislative resolutions honored Gerard DeAngelis, Andrew Viola, and Craig Souwe on earning Scouting’s highest honor. With passage of the resolutions, Gerard, Andrew, and Craig’s achievements will forever be part of the official record of the New York State Senate.
