SENATOR MARTINS TO SPONSOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN HICKSVILLE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), in conjunction with NuHealth, is sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, June 4th from 9 am to 12 pm at the Hicksville Public Library (169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville). 

     Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and the Nassau County Police Department will be sponsoring a free program to help parents protect their children from substance abuse. The substance abuse prevention program will be held on Thursday, May 28th at 7 pm at the Hicksville Public Library (169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville).

SENATOR MARTINS, PORT WASHINGTON POLICE, & NASSAU COUNTY TRAFFIC SAFETY BOARD TO SPONSOR FREE CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK PROGRAM

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District), in conjunction with the Port Washington Police District and the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board, will be sponsoring a free child safety seat check for families. The program will take place on Saturday, May 30th from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company (25 Carlton Avenue, Port Washington).

SENATOR MARTINS & DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES TO HOLD FORECLOSURE PREVENTION PROGRAM IN HICKSVILLE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is partnering with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) to provide services and assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure.

    Senator Martins has arranged to have DFS’ Mobile Command Center come to the Hicksville Library (169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville) on Tuesday, May 19th from 10 am to 6 pm.

    DFS staff members will be on hand to provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners in need. Depending on individuals' specific situations, DFS staff can help homeowners:

SENATOR MARTINS PARTICIPATES IN READ ACROSS AMERICA PROGRAM WITH PORT WASHINGTON STUDENTS

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited South Salem Elementary School in Port Washington to read to students as part of the Read Across America Earth Day Celebration.

     Senator Martins read The Watcher: Jane Goodall’s Life With the Chimps by Jeanette Winter to third grade students. The book teaches students about Jane Goodall’s life, her efforts to observe and study chimps, and her crusade to save them and their habitat from extinction.

SENATOR MARTINS MEETS WITH MANHASSET & PORT WASHINGTON VETERANS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently had a special meeting with members of the Manhasset American Legion and the Port Washington Marine Corps League. 

     The group was leaving for Quantico, Virginia to visit the Marine Corps base and pay tribute to their fellow American heroes. Senator Martins, along with Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, met with the group before they left for Quantico to help send them off and wish them well on their trip.

SENATOR MARTINS STATEMENT ON ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION ENSURING WOMEN RECEIVE EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK

     “Passing legislation to ensure women receive equal pay for equal work, as well as other important protections for women, was one of the first actions taken by the Senate this year. 105 days later, the Assembly has decided to join us in approving the pay equity legislation. As the father of four daughters and a cosponsor of these bills, I'm pleased they have finally done so.

SENATOR MARTINS HELPS CELEBRATE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF GREAT NECK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Great Neck community in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Great Neck School District.

     Senator Martins sponsored a legislative resolution with Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D-16th Assembly District) to commemorate the milestone achievement. With passage of the resolution by the Senate and Assembly, the Great Neck School District’s 200 years of excellence will forever be memorialized in the New York State Legislature’s official record.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS MINEOLA JUNIOR FIRE DEPARTMENT’S JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Mineola Junior Fire Department in honoring its Junior Firefighter of the Year, Neal Ressa, Jr. 

     Neal is a 15 year old sophomore at Mineola High School who aspires to continue serving the community as a Mineola firefighter and our country as a US Army Officer. He hopes to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point following his high school graduation.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS FLORAL PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT CHIEF FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently attended the Floral Park Fire Department’s annual installation ceremony, where he honored Daniel Bennett upon completing his tenure as Chief of the Department. 

     Senator Martins presented Chief Bennett with a legislative resolution passed by the New York State Senate honoring his service to the Floral Park Fire Department and the Floral Park community. With passage of the legislative resolution, which was sponsored by Senator Martins, Chief Bennett’s name and record of community service will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS CAPS IN HONORING ROSLYN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR BULLYING PREVENTION EFFORTS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) in honoring Roslyn High School’s Students United for Safer Schools (SUSS) team. The students were honored for their efforts to prevent bullying and cyberbullying. 

     The SUSS team has worked hard towards creating a safe school climate where students feel valued and accepted. As part of their efforts, the students visited the district’s elementary schools and facilitated classroom lessons on prevention and response to bullying, respecting difference, and encouraging upstander behavior.

SENATOR MARTINS, MANHASSET CASA, AND NASSAU POLICE HELP RESIDENTS “SHED THE MEDS”

Approximately 500 Pounds of Medications Collected For Safe Disposal

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently partnered with the Manhasset Community Coalition Against Substance Abuse (CASA) and the Nassau County Police Department to hold a Shed the Meds program where residents could safely dispose of their old, unwanted medications.  The program was held at Shelter Rock School in Manhasset.

     Approximately 500 pounds of medications were collected for safe disposal by the Nassau County Police Department.

SENATOR MARTINS INFORMS RESIDENTS HOW THEY CAN TRACK THE STATUS OF THEIR INCOME TAX REFUNDS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is informing residents expecting a state and/or federal income tax refund that they can track the status of their refund online through his website.

     Both the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have online tracking systems which allow residents whose income tax returns indicated they will be receiving a refund to find out when they can expect it to arrive. Both systems are updated daily to reflect new information as tax returns are processed. There is no fee to utilize these services.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) was recently invited to Manhasset High School by members of the Student Council to share “pizza and politics.” 

     Senator Martins talked about his job as a New York State Senator, discussed issues with the students, and answered questions they had about government and politics.

     “The Student Council are a great group of kids who are very bright, eager to get involved, and asked some really interesting questions. I enjoyed spending time with them and thank them for inviting me,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS SPEAKS WITH COMMUNITY GROUPS ABOUT PROTECTING LONG ISLAND’S WATER SUPPLY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with members of Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington, local officials, water providers, and community groups to discuss aquifer protection.  The meeting was held in response to a plan put forth by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to reopen 23 shuttered wells in Queens and draw approximately 33 million gallons of water a day from Long Island’s drinking water supply.

Mobile Legal Help Center Will Offer Free Legal Assistance to Residents in Need

     Senator Jack Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he will be sponsoring a program in Elmont to provide free legal services to those in need.

     Senator Martins has arranged to bring the Mobile Legal Help Center to the Family Life Worship Center (1350 A Street, Elmont) on Friday, May 8th from 10 am to 3 pm. The Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) and the New York State Office of Court Administration, brings free, civil legal services directly into communities.
