SENATOR MARTINS PARTICIPATES IN PORT HOLIDAY MAGIC

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited downtown Port Washington to participate in Port Holiday Magic.

     Port Holiday Magic is an annual event to help support local merchants and spread holiday cheer through Port Washington. The event, which was sponsored by Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, the Port Washington Business Improvement District, and the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, featured performances by local students, singers at different locations along Main Street, and children’s activities.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS WINTHROP UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL’S HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently took part in Winthrop University Hospital’s 29th annual tree lighting ceremony. 

     Senator Martins, along with Winthrop Hospital administration, staff, and local community officials, helped four year old Raphael Palmersen of Westbury, one of Winthrop’s Child Life patients, light the tree. The community event also featured musical performances by the Mineola High School Concert Singers.

SENATOR MARTINS & LEGISLATOR NICOLELLO ATTEND NEW HYDE PARK KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Nassau County Legislator Rich Nicolello recently attended the New Hyde Park Knights of Columbus’ annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The ceremony has been an annual community tradition for 30 years.

SENATOR MARTINS SECURES STATE FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS IN PLANDOME MANOR

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $100,000 in state funding for community improvements in the Village of Plandome Manor. 

     The Village will use the state funding to help defray the costs of creating a pedestrian path along the south side of Stonytown Road from Circle Drive near the Plandome Train Station Parking lot to Manhasset Woods Road. In addition, the Village will replace the existing sidewalk with a new sidewalk on the north side of Stonytown Road leading into the Plandome Train Station parking lot. The area is widely utilized by pedestrians and joggers, and the improvements will make it safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable for residents to go walking or running.

SENATOR MARTINS HELPS KICK OFF COAT DRIVE TO BENEFIT THOSE IN NEED

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Rallye BMW in Westbury to help kick off the annual Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association’s (GNYADA) annual coat drive.

     The drive is an annual event organized by GNYADA in partnership with New York Cares to give winter coats to individuals in need. GNYADA collected over 4,000 coats through last year’s coat drive, with the Rallye Auto Group collecting over 1,400. The Rallye Auto Group helped kick off the 2014 drive by making a donation of 220 coats, valued at $20,000.

Residents & Community Groups Invited to Donate New, Unused Toys to Benefit Children in Winthrop’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is inviting residents to participate in his annual holiday toy drive.

     Residents and community organizations are invited to donate new, unused toys to the program. All toys collected will be donated to children in Winthrop University Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR NEW IMPROVEMENTS AT WILLISTON PARK LIBRARY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured state funding for technology and facility improvements at the Williston Park Library.

     The library will use the $25,000 in state funding to upgrade technology at the service desks, thereby allowing staff to assist patrons in a more efficient manner. The library will also be repainting and installing new carpeting in its reading and staff areas.

     “The Williston Park Library is an invaluable resource for local residents. Investing in new technology will help enhance the services the Library provides to the Williston Park community. I am pleased to support the Library’s efforts,” said Senator Martins.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

     Every year, I ask sixth-graders in our district to write a Thanksgiving essay, the theme being, “What are you most thankful for?” Truth be told, I remember well that I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about these kinds of “extra” writing assignments as a student – especially with promise of holidays and vacation just on the horizon. Yet the response to our voluntary contest grows annually, with hundreds of entries this year. Clearly, our young people have something to say.

SENATOR MARTINS WELCOMES BETHPAGE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION TO ALBERTSON

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District, fourth left) recently helped welcome Bethpage Federal Credit Union to its new location in Albertson. Senator Martins joined with representatives from Bethpage Federal Credit Union, along with fellow local officials Assemblyman Ed Ra, North Hempstead Town Clerk Wayne Wink, and North Hempstead Town Councilman Peter Zuckerman, in cutting the ribbon on the new branch.

SENATOR MARTINS WARNS RESIDENTS ABOUT NEW TAX SCAMS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is warning consumers about a new scam in which thieves steal from people by tricking them into paying fraudulent tax debts. 

     According to the New York State Attorney General’s Office, scammers have been calling residents, claiming they owe back taxes and promising to settle the alleged debt for a portion of the owed amount. These scammers are also reportedly using high-pressure tactics to intimidate victims into paying.

     Residents should remember the following tips from the Attorney General's Office to avoid falling victim to this scam:

SENATOR MARTINS & MAYOR TWEEDY SUPPORT FLORAL PARK SCREAMING EAGLES ROLLER HOCKEY

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and Floral Park Mayor Tom Tweedy recently attended a Floral Park Screaming Eagles roller hockey game, where they each dropped a ceremonial first puck. The Screaming Eagles Roller Hockey League is a youth league which gives Floral Park children a fun and safe place to learn and play the game of hockey.

SENATOR MARTINS PROVIDES LEGISLATIVE UPDATE TO MANHASSET MEN’S CLUB

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited with members of the Manhasset Men’s Club at the Congregational Church of Manhasset to give them an update on state legislative issues. Senator Martins talked about the progress New York State has been making; cutting taxes, controlling state spending, creating jobs, and making smart investments in infrastructure and education.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES NEW LAW TO HELP HOMELESS VETERANS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that legislation he sponsored creating a Homeless Veterans Assistance Fund to support military servicemen and women who need help with housing has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The law allows New Yorkers to contribute to the fund when filing their personal income taxes.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS HICKSVILLE’S NEWEST EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently honored Nolan Mingst of Hicksville for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Senator Martins attended the Court of Honor to personally congratulate Nolan, a member of Boy Scout Troop 3211, on earning scouting’s highest honor.

     “Nolan has spent years serving his community and working hard to achieve something only a select few ever do; the rank of Eagle Scout. Making this achievement even more special is the fact that Nolan is only a sophomore in high school. The entire community is very proud of Nolan and we congratulate him on earning this very prestigious honor,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS WITH VOLUNTEERS IN CLEANING UP BAXTER’S POND/BARBARA JOHNSON PARK AND PRESERVE IN PORT WASHINGTON

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with volunteers in cleaning up Baxter’s Pond/Barbara Johnson Park and Preserve in Port Washington. The cleanup was organized by the Baxter’s Pond Foundation.
